The Def Leppard Cruise... Didn't Go As Planned I Guess

The Def Leppard Cruise, dubbed Hysteria on the High Seas was this past weekend. Apparently things didn't really go as planned. First off, and most horrific, is that Jimmy Bain of Last In Line and Rainbow and DIO fame actually died on the boat. I saw the reports of his death and didn't put it together that he died while on the cruise. Just terrible.

Then, apparently Joe Elliott got laryngitis - meaning he literally had no voice - and thus couldn't perform during Def Leppard's headline set. Eric Martin and Kip Winger stepped in and performed with Def Leppard. A clip of them singing is below.

Also, if all that wasn't bad enough, the weather was bad and ports were closed.

Thoughts and prayers to the Jimmy Bain family,Today the members of Last In Line said good bye to a legend.... Thank you to all who came to listen and share

I don't know that any of us put that together. What a horrible thing to happen, especially on a cruise. Too bad about Joe Elliott's voice, but great of the other guys to step in. Hopefully, all the death and dying will be done for quite awhile.
Glad they didn't also get hit with infectious diarrhea.

Gotta say..if I'm on a Def Leppard cruise and I don't get Def Leppard...I'm going to be kinda pissed off. If you went on the KISS cruise and Paul wasn't there...it would only be 1/4 of the band actually playing lol.

Good point.

Yeah, but surely it was unforeseen Joe Elliot would contract Laryngitis. At least they are remedying the situation with tickets for all the passengers.

RIP, Jimmy Bain. May The Metal Gods be with you! \m/

Sounds like the cruise was cursed. I really hope people were able to make the best of it.

And I wonder if/when it was announced that Bain died during the cruise. I saw that Appice was a bit peeved at how the information was released. I also saw--in the hours after it was announced--that some tool-belt decided that "death by bear attack" was a funny way to make light of a still fresh wound on one of the wikis that mentions Bain. So I just dealt with my shock at another loss and waited till more information was released. Sad news.

Nice to hear that they are offering tickets to passengers (what sort, Metalboy!?). And you had me laughing with your KISS comment, JAT.

Anyone catch the absolutely disrespectful backstabbing video from TMZ where they joked & MADE FUN of Jimmy Bain dying??? Possibly the most low class thing I've ever seen.

rest in peace, Jimmy.
To be fair (and please cross-apply my criticism of the "bear attach" rumor), TMZ is not known for peddling much of anything that is good . . . for anyone. The fact they remain popular no longer puzzles me. And that also saddens me.

TMZ also has an short interview with Brian "Damage" Forsythe from Kix about his passing...

Yeah, but the way they edited Forsythe with their condescending review of the cruise and mocked Bain way beyond the lows they've reached before.

It was cool to see people blasting them in their Comments threads as well as those on other sites, even swearing to never watch the show again.

Ace, what exactly did they say about his passing?? I've always hated TMZ for pedalling "news" that isn't really news and totally disrespecting the people they are reporting on. I guess those people need to eat as well, but that kind of journalism is a joke career. It's a huge middle finger to many journalists and writers that are giving us either factual information or quality entertainment, and who are doing an excellent job with it. Sorry for the rant.

DJ, you can view the TMZ clip of the interview with Forsythe on their website and the edited version with their full disgraceful "report" here...
