Las Vegas Really Is The New Sunset Strip

Another reason to love Las Vegas: the first annual Hair Metal Awards are set to take place there in May. Sounds like a fun time. Twisted Sister will headline.

I will clarify this, with a touch of authority & personal experience.

LAS VEGAS REALLY IS THE SUNSET STRIP.... Actually, it's the Sunset Strip Scene circa 1989.

What I mean by that, is...If you go out to one of the local clubs/casino show halls you will see onstage & in the audience a lot of the exact same musicians & scenemakers you would have seen at the Whiskey, Roxy, Rainbow, Gazzarri's in L.A. in 1989 - Jizzy Pearl & his current version of Love/Hate, Johnny Lust from Creature, Jeff Duncan from Armoured Saint, Phil Lewis & L.A Guns, Tracii Gunns & whatever band he's in this week, Ace Steele from Actress, Marque Martinez from Stars From Mars & Actress, G.B. Dyamond from Soul Machine & Actress, Scotti Griffin from L.A. Guns/Sin City Sinners/Playground/Ratt, Mandy Lion from World War III, Ron Keel from Keel /Steeler, Frank DiMino from Angel, Brent Muscat from Faster Pussycat & Sin City Sinners, etc. etc...

It really IS like the touring roster of the '89 Strip/Rainbow Bar & Grill Parking Lot Scene.

P.S. The "Casablanca Event Center"" is just a good sized convention hall meeting room that seats about 1200 people... I saw Kix there last January.... I shot some of them.. If you want to see Twisted, this would be an excellent opportunity to do so, & hang with the cream of L.A. & now Vegas's Glam / Hair Metal scene... Sally Steele's* "Vegas Rocks! Magazine events, are always a good time! *No relation... ;) I'll be there, come have a drink, say hello, punch me in the face, your choice! :)

Would love to go to this! But a Sunday?!!? Geesh. Making it tough for those of us who have to fly in for concerts and then work the next day.

I was even more interested because I would finally force Ace to meet with me and have a drink. Fate is conspiring against me.

If most of us can't go, I do hope you post a review (and pictures) of the event, Ace.

Really cool, thanks Ace. I loved Creature..the image, the performance (have a VHS of a show). Would have loved to see them circa late 1980's/early 1990's. I ventured out to LA and the Sunset Strip a few times during that time period but never caught Creature live. Saw some other really good bands though. Dancer, Fatal Attraction, Psycho Squad, etc.

Yeah, Ace! FYI, I got to experience The Sunset Strip back in the day, albeit, barely, by comparison to the way YOU LIVED IT!

I did, however get to see WW III at The Troubadour, L.A. Guns at The Cathouse in '87 and later, in the 90's, The Kinks VIP at The House of Blues where I met Gary Busey and Robert Shapiro of all people.

Around the same time, I even got to experience The Rainbow and it's parking lot in all it's glory one crazy night partying with Brian Connolly of Sweet, as well as lunch there one afternoon not long after, when the only other people in the bar were the bartender and Lemmy, who I didn't dare bother as he was so engrossed in his video game.

Glad to see The Sunset Strip is alive and well on The Vegas Strip!

Someone should actually reconstruct it on The Vegas Strip circa 1984 because in L.A., it's now slowly but surely being destroyed of all it's glorious seediness by the construction of big luxury hotels and retail destinations. In Vegas, The L.A. Strip could be recreated to a tee on The Vegas Strip and not only be a huge tourism destination, but a haven for all the REAL Rock & Rollers who live there!

To all who make it to The First Annual Hair Metal Awards, especially Ace, enjoy the event. It's about time the genre got it's due!
