No Guns, Just Roses

Well happy Monday! Guns n' Roses bassist Duff McKagan has penned an essay on the need for tighter gun control in America. The larger point of the essay is to bring up important topics and bring Americans together to discuss. McKagan likes history and his Noisey column will apparently be a regular thing.

Clearly, Duff is a smart man with a solid head on his shoulders. He cleaned himself up, ventured into new ventures (what else would one venture into, after all?), and shown a good sense of business. He also trends Left. Not a shock.
This topic? Guns? Nope. Won't go there. But I will applaud the sentiment he expresses in the midst of his discussion:
"I think we all have the ability to be super smart and use critical thinking, and I think right now it is of utmost importance for us all to take a breath and talk some shit out." He welcomes all who are interested in actually talking about controversial topics. But he also asks that they are _actually_ willing to talk . . . about their views and about other views that might and do clash with them. Sad that is a novel and daring idea these days.
Two responses: "I agree . . . and if only." Critical thinking requires one to be critical of not just their critics, but also themselves. It requires a bit of devil's advocacy and a touch of empathy.
Kudos for Duff taking on another column. Kudos also to him for opening up some room for debate on, ahem, Noisey. The world could use some _actual_ debate that proved respectful to all views on all sides of the political spectrum. I wish him well.
