BBG! - A Decade Later. We're Going To 11!

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the first post on Bring Back Glam! I can't believe a decade of my life has passed, marked every day by a new post on this site. We sure have shared some good times, big shows, reunions and some sad news as well.

Special thanks to the readers who have been here from the beginning and respect to those we've picked up along the way.

It is cliche to say that life goes by fast, but it's true. I remember sitting on an old hand-me-down recliner in an apartment Eric and I shared, writing the first post for this website. We were in a transition and about to buy our first home. I would bang out articles and watch Metal Mania videos while he worked on finishing the basement of our new place. My first writing space in that house was a spare bedroom, used as a makeshift TV room. The first music interview I ever did took place on the floor of that room, attached to corded phone. If you're wondering, I chatted with Jamie St. James from Black n' Blue (but at the time, he was fronting Warrant). Cringe worthy: I talk about Myspace in that interview!

I've interviewed quite a few folks - for quite a few publications - since that time.

Fast forward to today, and here we are, once again discussing the news of a split in the L.A. Guns world, but Phil Lewis and Tracii Guns are reuniting anyway. Guns n' Roses are expected to announce another year of touring for their big reunion and Metallica has a smash hit new album on their hands. The talks of the death of our beloved music genre were premature, right?

Thank you again for reading. I'm looking forward to another year of new music, crazy news story and snark. Let's get rocked. Oh, and if you want the latest details on Phil Lewis, here you go:

Happy Anniversary (Blogiversary?)!!!! Every morning you're one of the first sites I check. Thank you for having something every day, I can't imagine how hard that is to do. And thank you for reporting on all the awesome stuff we still love, have just started to love, and didn't know we should love until you told us! Cheers to the next 10 years!

Congratulations Allyson! I'm not sure if I've been here for the whole ten years, but for the many years since I stumbled upon BBG, I stop by almost every day. You're posts and your incites are appointment reading for me, and for the most part, the discussions we all get into here are interesting, and many times funny as well. Here's to another ten years if you're up for it. :)

Wow has it realy been 10 years? Congratulations Allison and a big thank you all the way from Finland. I was 14 years old when I first stumbled upon your website and I've come back daily ever since. You taught a young rock-hungry kid alot and here he is 10 years later still reading your site. Cheers!

Congratulations on hosting such a fantastic venue for music news & debate. It's not by accident that the majority of posters on BBG are mature and understand that opinions are like a certain part of anatomy; everbodies got one. This site is a class act. Here's to another 10 years!

Congrats agsin

Kudos, Allyson!

What can I say but "Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!"

You have probably saved me thousands in psychotherapy bills by providing thought provoking posts and a forum with your easy-to-use "Comments" post feature. It's been fun tricking trolls and getting a rise out of people as well as occasionally express my undenything enthusiasm about, or disapproval of, our heroes.

It's been an honor to carry on a discourse with all the great "Defenders of the Faith" of all things Glam Metal like Ace, HIM, Bob, Kari, Gary (the funny one), Kenny O, Rita (my fiancé), Glam Rocker Archie, Kixchix, Brian C., Snoot, GnR, Brian L., Rockett (dude, so jealous your in Finland with all those great new breed Glam Metal bands coming through there), The Insider and Christian (even if you're wrong 99% of the time unlike myself, who is right about EVERYTHING!) plus more names to come (I'm a little hung over from being mildly overserved last night so my memory is completely shot).

I've told the story before but I love how I stumbled on this site (I think it maybe in the Fall of 2007)... I had moved to Naples, Florida where someone told me Marc Torien of Bulletboys lived. I Googled his name thinking he might gig there and though I couldn't find anything about that, guess what did come up from that search? That's right! Bring Back Glam! and I've been hooked ever since!

Cheers to all the BBGers and let's go, Allyson! Crank it up to 11 and many more!

Sorry, Boyz...

There's also Roy, Oper8n, Steverox, Spyke, JAT, Shawn, Jeff, Will, Gene, Mike and Tesla worshippers everywhere to thank for all the great comments!

Cheers to one and all!

Let me add my voice to the chorus of thanks. Allyson, we owe you.

This site has served so many purposes for me. It is a respite from the usual snark-infested waters of metal news. It is a sounding board for issues both significant and trivial. It ranges from Glam to a host of other related topics. And this site got me through a very rough patch in my life. That might sound hyperbolic but it is not. When things in my life were at a low ebb, this site was there for a necessary jolt of perspective, humor, and engagement. I can never repay you for that, Allyson. And I know that others feel this way too.

You have been nice enough to let me post here. And you have created a place where people actually seem to care about what is written. In the process, I have gotten to know some of the regulars. Even though I have never met any of them, I feel a kinship that is rare in the multi-mediated maelstrom that is the Internet. And none of those connections would have happened without BBG!

So I also owe all the commentators a debt of gratitude. I have learned quite a bit on this site. I have had disputes and resolved them. I have poked fun, added some snark, and also engaged in long-standing battles of will with some stubborn interlocutors. Through it all, though, it has been one of the constant things I look forward to at the end of a long week, or after returning from a trip.

I wasn't here at the beginning. But I hope to be here for a good long while. Again, thanks Allyson.

I haven't been reading for the whole ten years, although I did stumble upon BBG about four or five years ago reading about the newest Van Halen album. I keep on reading because it is the best glam and metal site running in my opinion. Sure some opinions may differ but we all learn something from other posters on here. So thank you again for keeping this site running and giving a place we can talk music and other things. Here's to 11 more \m/

Congrats, Ally! I had to do a little research to figure out when I first started visiting BBG. It wasn't the very beginning, but about a year after you launched. This was the first article I came across! http://bringbackglam.squarespace.com/journal/2007/11/17/heavy-metal-moms.html.

If I remember correctly, I think I sent you the full show on DVD (directly from Geraldo's personal vault, I kid you not!).

Keep on rockin'!

Eddie Long Hair! Forgive me for forgetting you! Always great to read your comments, this latest revealing your source for your DVD as Geraldo.

Interestingly, I've also got the show on DVD as my friend had taped it on VHS in 1991 and then transferred it over to DVD just a few years ago! Hilarious stuff!
