Rival Sons, an amazing young band with a great classic rock groove, has a new single streaming online now. The song is called "Hollow Bones Pt. 1." The song is from the upcoming album Hollow Bones. Good stuff.

Their studio releases seem to lack something though.
1) Awesome, awesome live band with such energy throughout each performer on stage.
2) They are on album #5/6 depending on if you count their EP as one since 2009. How F*IN awesome is that ? Who does that in this day in age and tries to keep on making new sounds and new songs that fast. They don't dwell on an album they just give you more.
3) And speaking of albums, if you really listen to them vs. just comparing them to a cool retro/Led zeppelin sound, you would realize the diversity in each album with respect to sound, lyrics, type of rock, etc... They rocked in the beginning with just some indie crash rocktacular songs, then went a touch main street with pressure and time, then totally switched to a european type sound on head down, back to valykrie which is tough to actually describe to a casual rock listener, but yet so good.
4) Ummmm... they were picked to open for the one and only Black Sabbath on the final tour. Not just a leg of it. The whole tour.
5) If you haven't seen them live or listened to anything outside of a video posted on here, then maybe they are a one trick pony :)
Cant wait for the new album.
Cool retro, maybe... Led Zeppelin sound?
Though I do hear Zeppelinesque song structures and riffs, the actual sound is way rougher than Zeppelin. More like Blue Cheer "Summertime Blues" getting married to White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army" with The Strokes officiating but not even 1/16 as good and even sludgier than any of those bands..
I just had the boring old drag of someone saying that a band sounds the same. Don't all bands sound the same as a band ? Its such a cop out vs. actually enjoying what they are putting out. AC/DC puts outs Rock N Roll Train and everyone is like yep, that's classic AC/DC. Granted comparing the levels of those types of bands is not exactly apples to apples.
They sing every type of rock song as you know throughout each album from up tempo, to drawn out, to ballads, to screamers, to singers, to bluesy. Every type of lyric for any mood or history lesson you want. I guess I'm just shortsighted in hearing diversity throughout their albums. As with any band you can get bored :)
