Metallica Announce 'Hardwired…To Self-Destruct'

Metallica will release Hardwired…To Self-Destruct on November 18. The album will be the band's first in eight years.

People have been anticipating new Metallica for ages now... and "Metallica" trended on Twitter for hours yesterday, which is a great sign for the band. People were definitely talking about this album nonstop yesterday, at least in my circles.

You can pre-order Hardwired... To Self-Destruct now on Metallica's website. Here's the official music video for "Hardwired."

I know this is an abstract thing to say, but I don't hear any passion in that song. What I hear is very generic thrash with gratuitous profanity thrown in to make it sound like they still care about recording new music. At least the production isn't distorted and overly brick walled like their last album was. Hopefully the rest of the album will contain more interesting musical ideas. they certainly have the songwriting chops to do it, now let's see if they have the passion.

I'm b-a-a-a-k, you Glam Metal Kidz! in case you were wondering but probably weren't.

And for some more shock and awe, brace yourselves, especially considering how I've slagged on these guys for years, though never as much as TeSLUG...

Here's the shocker:

I LOVE THIS!

This is the best song out of Metallica in decades! In fact, call me crazy, I rank it up there with some of their best songs on their triumvirate of great albums, "Master of Puppets", "Ride The Lightning" and "Kill 'Em All"! AND it blows away anything off "Death Magnetic", their last shot at glory.

Here, they deliver! Finally, however they did it, they found the balls to come up with something that actually ROCKS balls!!! It just straight out f*ckin' ROCKS!!! Like "Stone Cold Crazy" ROCKS! And by that, I think you know what I mean!

Kudos, Metallica! ALMOST better late than never! Let's hope the rest of the new album lives up to it as that could potentially erase all their "Lulu's" of the past, including the "Black Album" and all of that other crap!

They are trying SO hard to recapture the vibe of those first 4 Metallica albums... still just missing the mark IMHO. Likely it's just a case of not being a young pissed off band for the last 25 years.

I would rather they just wrote an honest Metallica record for 2016 instead of writing what they think fans would want to hear.

They should take a cue from Anthrax, whose last 2 albums are outstanding.

I agree with Bob and Mike. Trying way too hard and theres no grit. Something is missing. Maybe its all the whining and crying they did in that awful movie i saw.

Seriously, Mike? Anthrax? No time to waste for me to start p*ssing you guys off... Anthax totally blows except for their great covers of Sabbath, Joe Jackson and Cheap Trick, etc.

AND Scott Ian goes down in history as one of THE most annoying self appointed Rock Stars of all time. Even more than Lars Ulrich, who I'm now issuing a temporary pass because of this new incredibly KILLER song! His performance is absolutely pummeling on it!

The only Metallica I don't really like is St Anger and Lulu I feel like I'm one of the few fans that defend Load and Reload. As far as this song, it's great!!! Definately along the lines of And Justice For All (my favorite Metallica album) the only complaint I have is that the lyrics seem kind of lazy, but it definately has that old school thrash vibe. Now...get Izzy and Steven back in GNR and launch a GNR/Metallica US tour.

Metalboy!, my good sir, while I mostly agree with you about Anthrax, I thought some of the stuff they did with John Bush on vocals was pretty respectable. "what Doesn't Die" is an awesome song."A stream of consciousness flows Into a river of blood. Stem this tide of violence As it rises like a flood." Now that's a great lyric! Plus, John Bush has a serious set of pipes. He's much better off back in Armored Saint, but I thought he brought some legitimacy to Anthrax when he was with them.

Wow, just wow. Did we just have comparisons of this new crap, to epic releases like MOP & AJFA? Put down the crackpipe, Metalboy. Coming from someone that used to consider this band their fave, and has seen them 9 times...its generic as hell. Just like DM was. They're trying too hard to be edgy, imo.

Regarding Anthrax, I appreciate the perspective, Bob. I will rexamine the John Bush era stuff.

And, like I said, they do a mean cover.

Regarding Metallica, boyz, I don't hear what you guys are complaining about. I've just listened to the song 3 more times and it kicks a*s royale!

That said, you guys pointing out what you don't like about it makes me realize what it must sound like when I start nitpicking.

Funnier still, I stopped liking these guys pretty much around "And Justice For All". As I said before, this is the first thing since then that really ROCKS OUT!

Oh, and one other thing on Anthrax:

Angus Young's Shorts = Cool
Scott Ian's Shorts = Doofy

not bad. but not great either. i think metallica's expectations - both from itself and fans - have become too high. so high, it's probably unobtainable for a conplete album anymore. for me, only master and and justice are complete albums, the rest all have a couple of great songs surrounded by filler. but at least the guys keep trying.

This coming from a guy who said Def Lep - Photograph was his favorite rock ballad of all time LMAO. Post your list again that was some funny shit i need a good laugh. Britny Fox - long way to love was in there too lol. You lost all credibility imo

I never called those songs "Rock Ballads". Once again, you are inaccurate when obsessively holding me accountable for what YOU consider to be wrong, etc.

Admittedly, though I know I'm stretching it, I do consider those songs "Power Ballads", mainly because they make the "mix tapes" longer. I could care less what you think of my credibility. If it's candya*s Hair Metal like those songs and has the word "love" or similar amorous expressions (lyrics of "Photograph") in the lyrics, I'm probably gonna lump it in a playlist of what I consider to be "Power Ballads".

Any songs that S*CK like Scorpions' "Winds of Change" or whatever the h*ll it's called, won't be on it, whether it's considered to be the greatest or not. I'm just offering MY opinion.

Who knows what YOUR real opinion is, Badmouth, as you make a point of making sure you don't agree with anything I say. Rarely do you comment unless I do and you usually do it after. If you ever do make a comment before mine, that's more than likely an occasion where you're actually expressing your true opinion. Fascinatingly, I often agree with them, whereas I'm gonna get crickets from you, should you ever happen to agree with me.

Don't believe me, folks? Just watch the pattern of Badland's commenting, proving that he is THE Number 1 TROLL on this SITE!

And I still stick by "Hardwired" as kicks a*s and so is the video. Like I said, I don't hear the inauthenticity or lack of anything others are commenting negatively about. Troll on, Badclown. No one is always right and that includes you but I'm still interested in people's opinions whether I agree with them or not.

p.s. BTW, Badjoke, rightly or wrongly, Hillary Clinton will be your next President so I suggest you skeedadle off to the next redneck standoff with your hero, Cliven Bundy and don't forget your Black Label Society bootlegs! Yee-haw, boy!

Seems like many here feel the same way as I do, Found myself liking it at the beginning but then it got very generic and lacked what made Metallica great, Didn't hate it but not something I'd buy or want to listen to many times, Hope the rest of the album has more to offer but if it did they wouldn't have chosen this song to video for us?

uh, yes you did say it. on a different website, under a different heading.

http://articles.mcall.com/2013-11-01/news/mc-lower-saucon-township-punched-garbage-man-range-20131101_1_garbage-truck-lower-saucon-woman-garbage-man

My point was this article is the nonsense that we have to work under in different communities, if you're still wondering how it relates. whether you're a garbage collector or a cps worker, those entitled people feel free to treat you as they feel entitled and most times it get supported (hence Donald Trump).

Yes, MB! you not only said it, but implied it many, many times. and I'll quote you once more..."he knows how to fight..."

Yes...I'm fighting for the right reasons!

and while I'm at it...just check your radar in the next few days. I have a lot to say.

Low risk my ass. Who orchestrated that "psycho-sexual" assessment? reading specialist? affinity? or PA forensic associates?

It is such a shame that the two "experts" in this community includes the above.
