'American Idiot'

Green Day is a pretty amazing band. They got really famous during my high school days and Dookie was a massive album. I'm pretty sure every kid in my high school owned a copy of that album. There were successful albums after Dookie, but it wasn't until American Idiot hit that the band just became other-world massive. I saw Green Day at Lollapalooza when they were touring behind 21st Century Breakdown.

Green Day will tour again this summer. They happen to be playing in Cincinnati on my birthday and I'll probably go.

There's no better song for this day - this weekend - than "American Idiot." I thank Green Day for the best protest song of the past 20 years. We rise.

Horrible band...horrible album...horrible song. This sight seems to be focusing more and more on the political. Sad. A site like this with a focus on a genre of music I hold so dear awash in liberal nonsense.

Sigh,,,,,,,This constant back and forth over the state of the country under OUR new president has got to stop. I am sick and tired of the NMP (not my president) folks who constantly berate and belittle every single thing that is said and done. How about moving on? He IS our President, like it or not for at least the next 4 years. I am typically apolitical, but damn, I am sick and tired of all of it...from BOTH sides.

A quick question for the NMP crowd....who is 'your" President?

Damn, this woman has such shitty taste in music. What a horrible, pitiful, political, and weakass band Green Day is. If everyone in her high school had their cd, I'm soooo very glad I didn't go to that high school. The only thing worse than this band is it's fans!

Whether you like "dookie" or you don't, and I don't, it was a massive album. I was long out of high school when it came out which is probably why it had less of an impact on me. On another note, yes, this site has become too political for my tastes. Not that I expect anybody at all to miss me, but I do think I need to step away from BBG for a while in hopes that, eventually, the political chatter, and disrespectful name-calling by multiple commenters will die down.

Agree with most - have fun arguing against someone who appears to have the best interest of the country at hand. Those who have endured 8 years of craziness did not behave in such a manner. It's ironic to think these folks call themselves liberal. Oxymoron certainly applies. BBG - Bye Bye Glam

Metalboy!...so your theory is that sales and chart position equates to great music??? Then I guess BeyoncΓ©, Jay Z, (insert current pop star of the moment), et al are all great artists and they make great music. Interesting. Why are you a glam fan in 2017 then? None of the bands you tout sell lots of records or gets high chart positions or even sell lots of concert tickets. Therefore they must not make great music.

JAT, I am first and foremost a Rock & Roll fan.

And I agree, album sales have nothing to do with musical greatness.

I am merely reporting facts. You may draw whatever conclusions you want.

In the early 2000's I had a teenage foster kid ask me to take him to the Blink 182/Green Day/No Doubt concert. It was out of state (New Jersey), so I had to get special permission from the Foster care agency and from the placing County to travel with him out of State. I figured that if he wanted to go so badly and permission was granted, I would do this for him as I would if he were my biological son.

Permission was granted and we bonded over that concert. A year or two later, I took him to No Doubt/Garbage, another Blink 182/Green Day show and another trip out of State (again getting travel permission) to see [at his request] Cheap Trick/Joan Jett.

He is now about 30 years old, and lives out of State, but he still keeps in touch and occasionally visits. We still talk about those concerts and he still thanks me for taking him to see them.

Music is universal.

Whoa, this is turning into what I suspected it would. Once anything political gets involved in the one thing that ties (OR TIED?) us all together is now going to fracture into people taking sides. I'm still stuck in the late 70's - 80's early 90's (Before Grunge) style of music. I listen to it a lot, if you like Green Day so be it, that's your thing, I don't care. I might not like them, I might not support them. As I am sure there are a few bands I enjoy (Telsa, M.B.?? haha) It's all good to me, as this kind of music does tie us all together until the last couple of weeks. Now everything is shit, the new Prez is shit, my guy lost boo hoo, green day suck, this site sucks, boo hoo.
This is very sad, cause we are letting hurt feelings, anger and a differing opinion ruin what we all came here for, to bond with each other over the music we love and our experiences that we lived listening, discovering or attending the bands we all love.

Half the eligible voters in the US didn't care enough to vote, and the other half split between the 2 candidates. Every time you preach your views to anyone, please keep in mind that 3 out of 4 people don't care. I'll check back in with the blog once the tantrums stop and see if you go back to talking about music. Adios.

I think JEFF's post hit in on the head. This constant Chicken Little story of the sky is falling at every decision made by the President is getting old. The world is surprised that an elected official is actually doing exactly what he said he was going to do ??? Oh the nerve of politician to actually have an agenda, state that agenda, get in office to enforce the agenda, then act on the enforcement ?

We've had a new president for a week ? And there have been how many lead posts be about this Chicken Little Story vs. music ?

Actually, GNR, I believe Darktown has sums up the catharsis of opinions besieging Bring Back Glam!

There's a term for what is bubbling beneath the posts in Comments:

We need to "appeal to better angels of our nature" to bring ourselves back together to "Bring Back Glam!", to wit, the latest post regarding the controversy free return of Nikki Sixx to Social Media.
