Foreigner Plot Summer Tour With Friends
Monday, January 9, 2017 at 12:01AM
According to Billboard, Foreigner will tour this summer and take Cheap Trick and the Jason Bonham Band on the road with them. Interestingly, original Foreigner members Lou Gramm, Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood will appear at some of the stops. Right now, it looks like there will be 37 dates. The run starts June 11 in Syracuse, New York. Tickets will go on sale soon. I'm going to pass on this as I just saw Foreigner live last summer.

But you know my spiel: Gramm deserved better back in the day, the current line-up is perfectly fine at recreating their classic sound (go Pilson, the Michael Anthony of Dokken!) live, that last single was horrid (even if it was taken as ironic, like the title of their recent greatest hits package, _No End in Sight_) . . . and they need to retire.
Yes, it is cool that _some_ shows will feature _some_ original members. Interested to know which ones. But the end is, or should be, near. And a more robust celebration of their music with the original members seems called for. Treating Gramm and Co. as guests at their own party--even if that is all they want(ed)--seems like more calculation from Mick Jones.
Speaking of (the other) Mick Jones, why no more Big Audio Dynamite shows after 2011? I loved both Mach I and II of that band.
Stu! Cheap Trick do seem like Road-a-holics. Still, it seems weird Foreigner isn't opening for Cheap Trick and not the other way around. I suppose it all boils down to the number of radio hits. Apparently, the fact that they're members of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Foreigner isn't weighs little.
Cheap Trick still bring it live. And Carlos gets his cash! So it is win-win. When I saw them last year with Heart and Joan Jett, it was so clear--to me--that they should have gone second, not being the fading light of day openers. And that is no offense to Jett either. They sure are Lep-like road warriors though. I wonder if that is simply love of playing or if the financials were a bit out of wack over the years (a rumor that floated about in the years leading up to the split with Carlos).
