Def Leppard Plots Big Tour

Def Leppard is rumored to tour with Journey this upcoming summer. In a recent interview, Leps drummer Rick Allen said the band is doing a 60 date run. It will hit cities across America and Canada. Allen also said to expect an announcement soon. He didn't confirm if Journey was joining them on the ticket, but if the announcement is soon, my guess is that it's already a done deal. So who headlines in that situation? Def Leppard I suppose (and hope).

The two bands toured together back in 2006. I can't wait for summer concert season. Warm weather, long nights, great music. My favorite time of year. When the announcement happens, I'll post up the dates.

These guys don’t stop! I’m not complaining but they tour A LOT.

Me suspects the Glee/Don’t Stop Believing generation gives Journey slight edge in 2018 status as to who headlines. But a rotation and similar set lengths will probably ease the potential of bruised egos.

Love me some DL, but they have toured non stop. They were at the Yum center in Louisville this year (with Poison/Tesla), and the year before that (Styx/Tesla). So I will skip this run. I also love Journey, buy there is a fantastic Journey tribute band called Departure that visits Louisville twice a year, so I get my Journey fill ... and it only costs $10 bucks and a few drinks!

Absence makes the heart . . . well, you know.

They should just do another residency. This time in Branson, just to confuse people.

Seriously though, without mixing up the basic formula (you know, smaller venues, different locales, etc.) people do start to get a bit tired.

As to who would headline, at this point in either band's career does it really matter?

If this does happen, and does come to a shed near me (I suspect both will be true), I'd likely attend. A good outdoor show in the summer is, as Allyson suggests, hard to beat.

Happy holidays everyone!

I’ll be there if they make it to Orlando again.

Added bonus if they get Journey.

Of course, just my luck if the roster also eventually winds up including the minus bonus of TeSLUG as the promoters know better to announce that now for fear of slowing down ticket sales.

Have a Very Metal Christmas and to TeSLUG fans everywhere ...

Bah, humbucker!

If it is Journey I'm guessing they'll play the same amount of time with Journey closing out the night. I've also read they'd be playing the full Hysteria album and that's enough for me to go see em again.

My college roommate enjoyed music (almost) as much as I did (do). After our course studying the works Plato, Descarte, and Piaget, We used our knowledge for the advancement of mankind, by getting into these in-depth idiosyncratic debates about all things music and band related. Three bands that we dissected to death about their "status" as "corporate rock" were: Journey, Def Leppard and KISS.

Ponder that, today, over your Chardonnay (or if your in Colorado, Oregon or California) some mint brownies, Cheers!

P.S. I now wonder why I didn't get laid more back then.

That sounds like some course, Fletch. Best wishes to you this holiday season.

If I were to take your list, I would say that it goes in this order: Journey, KISS, and Lep. Journey are AOR, pure and simple. Schon, despite his "pure" roots, always wanted to be in a band that was like Boston, not Santana (and, yes, I know that their origin dates might belie this point if you are sticking to a tight timeline). KISS are a branding idea that started out as straight ahead rock with a touch of spectacle. At some point (the debate continues), the branding took over the rock. Lep were a down and dirty band that succumbed to the smartest path (not necessarily the one all fans would like, even if most seem to do so).

Let me offer you a Fletch-ism, Fletch: "Nugent. Ted Nugent." Again, enjoy your holidays.

Thank you for your perspective, Him. As far as Uncle Ted is concerned, I simply see him as a narcissistic, racist, child molesting rock dude.

But, if I may, can I get your thoughts on corporate rock band: Bon Jovi?

I know he prefers to term his band (which I loathe), the "rock and roll mafia"; But corporate rock?

and one quick anecdote. One thing that my roommate and I always agreed: Def Leppard's commitment to Rick Allen after his accident, is way above and beyond Bon Jovi...That is true friendship.
