Stephen Pearcy Releases New Video
Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 12:01AM
Stephen Pearcy just released a video for his new single "Ten Miles Wide." It's from his new album Smash which came out at the end of January. This video is something else. Masks everywhere! Props to Pearcy for putting a concept together and making a pretty good clip to promote his new work.

In somewhat related news . . . Pearcy's autobiography turned out to be a mixed bag. Some interesting snippets. But also a lot of clearly fabricated/romanticized detours that bespeak a poor ghostwriter (in terms of talent, if not bank account). When a man of his advanced age (kidding: he is only in his mid-50s) uses the term "trim" so much to describe the female anatomy, he is straining for descriptive terms and making even loyal fans cringe.
And as Ace also pointed out then, Kieth Richards would like his riff from "Gimme Shelter" back", asap!
BTW, My fave cut from "Smash" is "Want Too Much", which Jeff also mentioned.
One thing that is odd, is that they never "perform" the song. It's not synced to the music. They could have laid any song off the new record to these images. I wonder if they changed the song after the shoot?
And I guess I am optimistic that Ratt can do something close to _Infestation_ again. Like I said, a sober Pearcy is a better singer-ish. Even he owns that. But he also owns the fact that he was a clown who dissed a lot of people and missed a lot of chances (with Ratt and without). So I hope he stays on the wagon, stays positive, and works whatever mojo he has left. Like all of us, it ain't going to get stronger and stronger as we age. So make the most of it.
Thing is, this isn't "generic" nor is it "fluff." It sounds Ratt-ish (the "voice" still is, bad and good). And the issue of fluff carries an added question: as opposed to what . . . exactly? Bands of this era? Bands now that replicate the same spirit? Or Pearcy solo as relates to classic Ratt or even earlier solo Peacy? The last question carries further questions. But I will abstain. I am not trying to start a fight. Just saying: "generic fluff" cancels itself out with a bit more clarification. Reason being, there is rarely fluff that isn't generic and there is rarely generic material that isn't fluff (or filler, which also fills out stuff).
And Sparky's astute observation is spot on. They could very well have shot this video, not knowing which song to use, especially when it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the lyrics conceptually. It's still kinda cool. though, even if the song doesn't do anything for me, unlike the stellar, "You Want Too Much".
