Our First Look At Poison Live This Tour

The Def Lepaprd/Poison tour kicked off Saturday night in New Hampshire. We already know it's the same old setlist. I will say the band sounds pretty good.

"Won't hear nothing, but the same thing . . . no matter if you insist."

I get Allyson's point. A lot of bands are "going through the motions" (as BOC would say) at this point in their career. And some, like Bret Inc. and Co., LLC, have been going through those motions for a lot longer, even if not consistently. So if you miss the band and _those_ songs, you are in for a treat.

If you expect them to go into the vault and dust off some nuggets, you will likely be dealing with those figs of which Allyson spoke (great phrase, by the way). And you will have to hope for another round of The Special Guests once The One Guy goes back to the casino circuit, where he can bang elbows with Neil, Keifer, Slaughter and every other singer who has grown tired of the band that made them (for good and bad reasons) . Because that is what 3/4 of Poison are these days. The One Guy still calls the shots, rightly or wrongly (okay, wrongly). And no amount of "we can't wait to rock you" PR hooey from the band or Bret changes that fact.

They are, as a band, doing the Twisted Sister sorta' tour. You knew/know what to expect. So don't be surprised if they meet expectations. And make sure to thank Bret for making this all come true.

I rarely double-post (in a row, that is), but I had to go and look at a few of the videos out there from their other performances as of late.

Here's my take-away: (1) they do move around a bit more and sound good; (2) Brett is pleasantly "healthy" looking (not a muffin top, but a certain type of souffle bump . . . a sorta' "Oh My God Look What the Spanx Tucked In" thing might be in the offering soon); (3) you could play a drinking game around the amount of times Brett says "Come on" before, during, and after songs; (4) Dall looks particularly skinny; and (5) the crowd seems to be loving it. So all is well that pays (and plays) well in Poisonland.

That said, nothing in my previous post is changed by any of what I saw. Then again, I am not paying to see this. So that doesn't really matter. But there are certainly better videos out there of their recent performances. See for yourselves.

Good news! Per setlist.fm Poison changed up the setlist!

Bad news ... they actually dropped a song, so down to 9 songs. They moved Talk Dirty to me up to 3rd slot. So basically this is the BMB setlist now except for the solos where Bret would play 2 covers (sweet home alabama, rock and roll all night). By the end of the tour, they will come out to Cat, play Dirty and Good Time and call it a night;-)
