Another 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Clip Released
Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:01AM
Happy Friday. The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is due in theaters November 2. I'm really looking forward to this movie and I'll probably go on opening night. This looks so good and I can't wait hearing all those songs we love with the massive sound system in the theater.

I dunno. I guess it will be about the songs. But I wonder if it will actually deal with the dynamics in the band. The previews suggest an uplifting movie filled with great songs. I suspect the grittier stuff won't show up (a PG-13 rating suggests that this is a movie made for malls and masses, not fans per se). And I hope the whole Singer/Fletcher directing thing doesn't impact the final product.
I also think that this is the sort of treatment--regardless of how it turns out--that The Dirt needed, but didn't get, as it was passed around three times at least. Not that I want a glossy treatment of the Crue. No, I mean the heft of a company like 20th Century Fox backing its release. To my mind, both the Queen and the Crue movies need(ed) an R rating. But that alone doesn't sell a film if the content doesn't work.
In other news, the Ratt bio-pic is going to be released on Betamax in Singapore.
The Dirt better be R or if they had cajones NC-17 (nobodies seeing it in theatres). PG-13 would make The Dirt fiction.
Him. Quite the swipe at Ratt. Lol Maybe a bio on how to destroy your legacy and what should be the golden years of a once lethal band

In other news, really looking forward to "Bohemian Rhapsody"!
Gotta say, it is fun to be in the movie theaters while the trailer is playing and the young people getting "Woke", as they like to say, when the drums come in at the start of "We Will Rock You" or the bass kicks in on "Another One Bites The Dust" or the opening notes of "Under Pressure" come across the Dolby sound system (or whatever the hell it is now) as these are some of the biggest samples ever in the Rap genre.
Ya gotta wonder why Cohen left but it should still pretty awesome, judging from the clips, regardless of how they may sanitize this. Addressing Mercury's gender identification does give it somewhat of an edge, however, which will create some tension in the level of conflict every great story needs.
HIM, the main difference between this and "The Dirt" is the presence of established actors, primarily Rami Malek. If "The Dirt" had the script AND the actors, it would have been completely killer.
It's fun to speculate who could have played our fearless heroes had "The Dirt" been given a mega budget actually four times larger than "Bohemian Rhapsody" because that's what it would cost to get these guys ...
James Franco: Young Vince
Jack Black (with a prosthetic nose): Old Vince
Johnny Depp: Young (w/CGI) & Old Nikki Sixx
Jared Leto: Young Mick Mars
Christopher Walken: Old Mick Mars
Christian Bale: Young (w/CGI) & Old Tommy Lee
And while we're at it, how about Kate Upton as Pamela Anderson!
Of course, I would love to hear other's thoughts on who else might fill these mighty shoes!
p.s. As I've mentioned before, Luke Spiller of The Struts should have played Mercury. Not only is he damn near a dead ringer but he even sounds like him, through they would obviously have to punch in the high notes. I can't imagine why they didn't immediately try to cast him. I wonder if they even approached him, it seems so obvious. Regardless, if he can't act his way out of a paper bag, it's a non-starter. Judging from the trailers, In any case, Malek is a helluvan actor so I think this is going to the Killer Queen (pun intended) everyone hopes it is!.

Sure, some sour grapes. But the guy was involved in this project for years. I think the band's explanations are a bit face-saving, and I think the retooled script is proof positive that they were not interested in telling a 'true(r)' story. Still, I will likely see it.
Kixchix, I second your comments. The Dirt is likely going to be a train wreck that serves only to push more Crue product--a new greatest hits collection (I mean, a soundtrack) with four new songs, several concert appearances, maybe a residency--out into the ether. But I certainly hope the film is rated R. And Ratt doesn't deserve a movie at this point. They should do a movie about RC, a cautionary tale about fast living and a cool dude who got pulled under by the rock n' roll lifestyle.
I like your thinking, Metalboy! To me, Steve Buscemi was born to play Mick Mars. And Gérard Depardieu an old Vince. If I were on drugs (which I am not!), Joyce DeWitt could play Sixx and Hillary Swank would play Lee!
Eddie, that store isn't that long of a drive from where I live. I think we should carpool! I have been wanting to watch Arnold Schwarzenegger's _Raw Deal_ again.
You made me burst out laughing once again!
Gerard Depardieu as old Vince is hilarious but now you’ve got me thinking of who would actually be idea as Old Vince ... Val Kilmer! He was superb as Jim Morrison when he portrayed him in Oliver Stone’s “The Doors”, so he seems perfect as an older Wince Neil. The similarity in their physiques is uncanny, as I’m sure that was also a determining factor for you when you arrived at Depardieu as a possibility, as well!
As for Buscemi, he would be awesome as Mick Mars but I think Walken might eek him out, certainly in the elder role. I also think Jared Leto could play the younger Mick Mars but I believe there’s someone out there who would be much better, if you or anyone else have any thoughts.
Your choices for Lee and Sixx aren’t as far fetched as you make them sound as you’ll recall Cate Blanchett played Bob Dylan in 2007’s brilliant “I’m Not There”. It certainly would get the media buzz it would need from casting Swank and De Witt as Lee and Sixx, respectively.
That said, I still say Franco and Depp would work better.
My ex-lead guitarist brought up a valid point about “The Dirt” when he heard about the project and exclaimed, “Isn’t it a little soon for a movie about Crüe?”
As I said in a previous polemic on the subject (a week or so ago), it might be 'too late' for The Dirt given how Neil seems to be living. Which is a shame. I slam him right and left, good-naturedly (I hope), of course. But he is deserving of praise as one of the essential ingredients in what people call, rightfully so, the 'classic' Crue sound. Still, he seems to be on a course to burn out even as he has already started to fade away. As with Pearcy, you wish someone would say: "Stop. You need to take a step back." I don't expect either of them to be saints. And I am not asking for six-packs (of either sort) or slagging Neil if he sports a bit of a gut or paunch (old age and metabolisms rarely mix well). But if Axl can get back into relative fighting shape, others can too.
Gary, I think Neil and Anderson used the same hair dye back in the day. Hilarious as always!
"Maybe fans put too much pressure on their idols to keep performing at the same level forever. It just isn't possible. Something goes: looks, voice, a hip or a knee. Or all of it. Then these musicians we say we love struggle to keep up and they get mocked, mercilessly, by the very people who profess to idolize them. It's an odd circle, isn't it?
Keep in mind, you likely won't be able to do your job forever, either. Someone younger, faster and cheaper will come behind you and be the "best new thing." It happens in every industry, not just music. That's probably another reason we get a million stories of "economic anxiety" despite a robust economy and subreddits full of young people bemoaning "their lost generation." -Allyson
It's a gentle reminder to those on this thread who are, once again, mocking the Crue for their current situation(s).
Satire can be dead serious. But I am tired of it. So I am out.
