Will We Ever See This Again?

Whenever a person connected to the Beatles dies, we know about it. The other day, legendary recording engineer Geoff Emerick passed away. This death was pretty immediate news and Geoff's name trended on Twitter all day.

That got me to thinking: we will ever see this phenomenon again? It's one thing for it to be news when a famous musician dies. It's another when a behind-the-scenes person passes. About the only instance I can think of would be Bob Rock or Mutt Lange, right? And those two are from the 80s era and earlier. Music is so "throwaway" these days. What do you think?

I think this is more about the legendary nature of The Beatles. Anyone connected to that magic in any way got sprinkled by fairy dust. That's my take on it.

Glyn Johns maybe? To an extent, i get what Rita is saying. Because emerick did work for the Beatles, he has a higher profile, but at the same time, he really did expand the scope of their sonic explorations, so you can't just minimize the importance of his contributions. I think that, for the most part, the producer/engineer as an artist days are behind us. ProTools has largely homogenized the sound of most music so very little sticks out from a production prospective. It all sounds very stilted and digital.
