'I'll Never Let You Go'

Steelheart has released an official live video of their most famous song "I'll Never Let You Go." The track is from Rock'n Milan, due December 7 via Frontiers. One of my husband's favorite songs, period. It doesn't get much better than this.

Saw him (well, them) at Rock n' America years back, and they killed it with both songs. Sadly, they never managed to garner success as a 'catalog' band for the reason you mentioned. He (well, them) are known for two songs. But those two songs are great, even if Miljenko is better served these days by not sporting the frosted mane and combustion-ready tight jeans of days of yore.
Come to think of it, he is what Ilous dared to, wanted to, and failed to, be. No slag on Terry. Just popped into my noggin.
I’ve told this story before ...
I was fortunate to shake the man’s hand as he extended it from the stage when they played M3 a few years back ...
Toward the end of the show, I started noticing some funny antics going on between this tall skinny kid roadie with long straight hair who spent most of the time stage right. When it was time for Matijevic to do an acoustic song as his next number, he would faithfully set up an acoustic guitar on a stand behind the singer while he was working the crowd from the “runway” in front of him.
Here’s where the shenanigans began ... Matijevik worked his way back down the runway toward the stage shaking his head disapprovingly, motioning for the kid to come back out and move the acoustic still on the stand over to the left like 2 feet.
Then Matijevic straps on the guitar and makes a waving motion for the kid to come back out and remove the stand from the stage. The kid comes running back out, hair flying, all jangly, every motion appearing to be exaggerated because he was so lanky like The Scarecrow from “The Wizard of Oz” on speed. He grabs the guitar stand now behind Matejevic as he works his way back up the runway.
I was noticing all of this because I was standing POINT BLANK, right up against the left side of the runway in the 3rd row. Toward the end of the song, Matijevic turns around and with that, the kid comes tunning back out with the guitar stand and Matijevic takes off the guitar and places back on the stage. Like clockwork, the kid comes running back out and grabs the guitar and stand and runs off with it. I mean, what the h*ll, can’t Matijevic just hand him the guitar, for crissakes?
Then Matejevic takes off his mic (the kind that makes you look like a call center operator) and looks at the kid backstage all the way on the other side, now positioned stage left again, kneeling down in one knee like Tebow or Kapernick (depending on which side of the political spectrum your on).
The kid stand up, his eyes continually riveted in Matejevic as Matejevik, still clutching the headphone/mic contraption, makes an underhanded motion like someone playing horseshoes. The kid holds his hands and arms up, nearly doing jumping jacks as Matejevic tosses the mic thingy across the stage and the kid catches it without breaking a sweat.
Then the kid runs out with a mic on a stand and is gone in a flash as Matejevic grabs the mic from it and heads up the runway as the kid runs back up to grab the mic stand while Matejevic launches into the first words of “Everybody Loves Eileen”. I was astonished how Matejevic nailed every impossible note!
Everyone in the crowd is on their feet, losing their minds as Matejevic takes his bows and walks off the stage. But wait, no “I’ll Never Let You Go”? After a few minutes of people screaming and applauding out comes Matejevic, now donning sunglasses. This is a true Rockstar, people!
Halfway through the song, now all the way on the opposite side of the stage, he takes off his shades, looks at the kid who is perched once again offstage with laser eyed focus on Matejevic. As if daring the kid to miss, Matejevic then proceeds to fling the sunglasses all the way across the stage and the kid catches them!
As the song heads toward it’s majestic conclusion, I now notice the kid is motioning to a large clock that I realized has been offstage next to the kid’s perch the whole time but wasn’t on until now. It was obviously there to let performers know their set time is running out as each artist’s set has to stay on schedule so the promoters can make sure everyone gets their timeslot and on time.
The thing is, Matejevic isn’t paying attention st this point! Now the kid IS doing jumping jacks trying to get Matejevic’s attention. Matejevic STILL doesn’t see him or the digital time clock. 17 seconds ... 16 ... 15 ... 14 ...
The kid is now going completely apesh*t at this point, frantically motioning at the clock, getting on one knee in front of it, framing it with his hands like Carol Merril displaying a product on “The Price Is Right”. Matejevic still doesn’t see him ... Now the kid is jumping up and down waving his arms like a guy stranded on a deserted island trying to get noticed by a recognizance plane.
FINALLY, Matejevic notices the kid insanely motioning at the clock ... 6 ... 5 ... 4 ...
Needless to say, Matejevic ignores the kid and finishes the song when he damn well pleases (and we know how incredible that ending is!) with every note shattering the sunglasses of the audience throughout the shed.
And with that, Matejevic throws his mic across the stage to the kid who successfully makes the catch and Matejevic is gone disappearing into the twilight, leaving the roar of the crowd behind him.
BTW, personal note to mb: recently reconnected with a former colleague of ours through Facebook. We are having lunch today. I'll tell him you say hello. On second thought, maybe not. Better not to discuss religion, politics or mb with him. Cheers! 😜
@MB love those POINT BLANK stories :)
@Fletch I don't usually disagree with you but on Kapernick - The National Anthem and the American Flag to me are sacred and should never be disrespected. As most of you know I am a 22 year veteran and yes I support free speech and his or anyone's right to protest but at the same time that one burns my rear. Just one person's opinion and I respect you for having yours and applaud you for the work you do to better people. So please don't be offended by my view as I am not offended by yours. For some reason i just felt obligated to say something.
I really don’t think Kaepernick intended to disrespect the flag, a sentiment stoked by the inflammatorily negative remarks by our one term President.
When the quarterback infamously took a knee during the National Anthem, he was calling attention to what he believes are continual discriminatory actions and unjust treatment toward certain U.S. Citizens by Law Enforcement and The Criminal Justice System, something the flag should not stand for. He wants the flag to stand for something better.
The one thing he and his supporters do not understand is why he has not been able to get another lucrative contract with an NFL team. It’s not his kneeling for what he believes that’s preventing him from doing so, it’s the fact that his performance in his last season was terrible.
I think your right he did not intend to disrespect the flag. I just wish he could have taken a different approach and I understand that on the worlds stage such as the NFL it was an opportunity to make a statement. But it still pisses me off :) To go overseas and defend that flag and this nation, and see the fellow service members that are maimed and killed for a war over oil. (Side note we that have served don't always agree with foreign policy but we signed up with the understanding we may be called ti make the ultimate sacrifice) That is why the flag and anthem means so much to me. Case in point the mayor from North Ogden Utah that lost his life - it drives me nuts to see our servicemen die.
I don't have the answers to the discrimination, inequality, or the destruction of our constitution and core values. But if we don't as a nation come together to heal and solve these issues, we will continue this spiral out of control.
I apologize for going off the rails here I usually don't share this much. As for Colin - He is a tremendous athlete probably more suited as a wide receiver or tight end with his size and speed.
One day I hope to meet you and discuss all things great in life (MUSIC) We have never met but I feel as if we are friends. Thank you for commenting and actually make me take into consideration a different point of view.
On another note check out George Lynch and Corey Glover in Ultraphonix George is playing like I have never heard him play showcasing his tremendous guitar ability.
