'Bohemian Rhapsody' Movie Review
Many critics panned the film. Funny that, because it was a box office smash and I expect it to continue to do well.
Yes, Bohemian Rhapsody takes liberty with the facts of Freddie Mercury's life and miggles with the timeline of events at times. But the biggest pieces of Freddie's life remain in tact: his lifelong love of Mary Austin, the closeness he shared with the other members of Queen and his passion for cats.
Seeing the classic performances recreated was such a treat, from Top of the Pops before the bands broke big and ending with the soaring Live Aid performance. I attended a matinee performance (cheaper seats!) and there were quite a few others in the show as well. There was a lot of laughter and then head bopping to the great tunes.
Rami Malek did an amazing job as Freddie Mercury. He deserves an award for this performance and he just might get it. That's because the critics are often wrong - and they were this time for sure. Go see it, escape for two hours and enjoy the music we love all over again.

Despite a few minor flaws and corny lack of subtlety in some scenes, what’s great about this movie far outshines those minor directorial and screenwriting missteps.
And Malek’s awe inspiring performance deserves the Oscar for Best Actor!
p.s. “Tie Your Mother Down” and “Stone Cold Crazy”, my two favorite Queen songs (aside from their magnus opus, “Bohemian Rhapsody”), are omitted from any of the film’s scenes or music montages, something I feel would have given the movie an edgier vibe.
