Dokken Release Video For 'It's Just Another Day'
Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 12:01AM
Many of us felt like it would never happen, but the classic Dokken lineup has a new video. The clip is for the song "It's Just Another Day" from the upcoming CD/DVD package Return To The East Live 2016. You might recall Dokken's classic lineup reunited in Japan during 2016. It's likely none of us here got to witness that reunion live... but now we'll get to enjoy the performance via DVD, so at least that's something. The reunited band played one U.S. show as well... I still haven't met anyone that was able to snag a ticket to that event.
Watching the clip, I can't decide if Don Dokken looks happy or sad during the filming. Probably more perturbed than anything. The band sounds really good here. The money must have made it all worthwhile.

Okay. Now that I have your attention.
I stand by my previous comments that this has an _Erase the Slate_ vibe to it. Also, Jeff is not dripping in sweat. Both positive things.
This is better than it should be and a great suggestion of what "studio" Dokken could sound like if Don ever got back together with these guys to create more music. Which he recently suggested he won't do. Which is a shame. Why? Because the music he makes with his version of the band doesn't quite get this close. That is no slag on Levin either. It just isn't this good. He needs George and Jeff to jump start the music . . . and the latter to provide some up-mixed 'backing' vocals!
Which isn't to say I can't hear what people are going to say (and they are saying it on other sites): "Don's voice is shot." "He is holding them back." "They should reform Dokken without him."
Nope. This is what Don has to offer these days. His fault? Yup. The other guys' fault? Nope. But this is all of them putting out a song that does sound good. So I will enjoy what it is, knowing it will never be played live, or at least never played live this good. And trying to slam him for recycling lyrics or phoning them in? Not even close. This is what Dokken wrote about back in the day. This is what we wanted from them then. So you can't swipe at what is by trying to reconfigure what we liked about them then as a problem. It doesn't work that way.
Don isn't a spent force. He is a shot singer now consigned to being a vocalist working with a significantly diminished range. He lies about why. He occasionally acts like he knows it. But when he plays to the strengths of what he still has--and allows the studio magicians to work their magic--he can still tease out a more than acceptable song. The thing is, as I mentioned above, when the whole band is there . . . well, it is more effective.
Haters hate. Fanboys dream. Me? I think I am a person willing to admit (as I have in the past) that I will take 'classic' Dokken for what they are, warts and all. At this point, Don is the wart. But this song isn't a bad way to scratch it.
Question: would "sorbet" have been a better choice?
How about A Meat Parfait Flambé!
Again, I wish they would tour! No matter how horrible Don’s “singing” is, this is the only way to hear Lynch play a bunch of Dokken songs in one set.
He only really plays one per show with Lynch Mob if we’re lucky and like HIM points out, Don’s DOKKEN just doesn’t cut it compared to the REAL deal!
Prayers to the Metal Godz, this ain’t true.
If that is true (again, just rumors at this point) it would suggest that Blotz was at least partially right in some of his thumb-slamming soliloquies. But I hope it ain't.
