New Joan Jett Music!

Well this is a nice surprise! Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have released a new song. It's called "Fresh Start" and is from the upcoming rockumentary Bad Reputation. You'll be able to watch that on September 28 via on demand. Some theaters will also carry the film.

I knew the rockumentary was coming but I didn't think much about new songs. The track below sounds just like the 80s! I've never seen Joan Jett and the Blackhearts live but I'd like to for sure - and I hope "Fresh Start" makes it into the set. Good stuff.

Happy Wednesday and if you're in the path of Hurricane Florence, please make plans to evacuate away from the south east coast. This is a monster storm and shouldn't be ignored. Be sure to pack batteries and extra phone chargers so you can pass the time while listening to some music!

Okay, so it ain’t no “Bad Reputation” or “I Hate Myself For Loving You” but it still ROCKS the way no one else can except Jett!

I’m really looking forward to this new movie!

p.s. I was fortunate to see Joan Jett point blank (naturally) at Painter’s Mill Music Fair back in 1981, the year “I Love Rock & Roll” came out. Needless to say, it was an incredible show. Joan even stuck her tongue out at me!

Agreed, Allyson. Hope everyone stays safe with what is looking to be a massive storm.

Joan's an icon. No doubt about it. She does her thing and does it well. Saw her a few years ago and she was as I expected her to be . . . great fun (if she stuck her tongue out at me, I woudn't have know as I was in the GA lawn section!).

Moreover, she is the cool and collected one next to that crazy lady with the plastic bag full of feral cats . . . I mean, Lita.

I met Jett ,point blank at a Blimpies a few years back . She was very sweet!

The opening riff reminds me of "I've done Everything for You" by Sammy hagar, and the chorus is pretty much a dead lift from a foo Fighters song, the name of which escapes me. Regardless, she is certainly an icon, if not necessarily musically original from a song standpoint. either way, she absolutely earned her success the hard way, and for that I admire her regardless of what I feel about her music.

Fun song. I've seen her the last two times she came around. The first time was with Cheap Trick & Heart. I had front row. Towards the end of the show she was sweating profusely and flicked some beads of sweat from under her chin at a guy and his girl a few seats down from me. They loved it and so did Joan. It was hilarious.

Joan is the epitome of cool rock chick. She wrote the book. Check her video out doing Dirty Deeds from AC/DC. What a beautiful woman to boot. Her significant other at that time was one lucky woman 👍

Haha!!, Ripper! What did she order?

Beautiful woman indeed, Gary ... particularly during her tenure in The Runaways.

As far as her songwriting goes, put “Cherry Bomb” and “I Love Playin’ With Fire” in your pipe and smoke it!!!

Hilarious vignette, Gallogs. Saw her on that tour as well. Wonderful time.

Metalboy!, there is a joke to be had in your Blimpies [sic] question. But I won't. And you are being very fair in your assessment of her as well. I wonder though: how much of "Cherry Bomb" was her thing and how much of it was (Creepy and Gross) Kim Fowley's? I know the legend: they both wrote it quickly as a try-out track for Curie. Just curious about the real story of how much Fowley was involved.

I also agree with Bob. She doesn't really have range (and was great with owning a cover song when the mood struck). Then again, other great acts are not known for being expansive. A certain Australian band comes to mind. Regardless, she is one of the First Ladies of Rock (FLoR), and I mean that with no disrespect.

If only she would cover "Jet(t) City Woman." Heck, Tate's been covering it for years. I kid. I was just trying to inject a bit of the slag I hate on other sites (in an ironic way, of course).

In my mind, Joan Jett, can do little, if anything wrong. I might say things differently after I read Suzi Quatro's book, Who knows? But, yeah, I've seen her a dozen or so times- in different venues; as an opener and as a headliner. And, as gallogs writes, she often does flick the sweat off of herself toward the audience (I've been baptized many times) and she rhetorically says to identified audience member, "But can you do that?"

Him: I don't believe that mb was being factious in her comment. Read it again from a different perspective. Cherry Bomb and Fire are often in my pipe and I smoke it...in a good way.

Mb: I don't usually see her sticking her tongue out at audience members. She usually winks at them as she's done to me on a couple of occasions.

Be safe North Carolina and my friends in Salem-Winston, Holden Beach, Leland, Cherry Grove and their surrounding areas.

here's an old JJ interview. Fast-Forward to the 8:50 mark. This is simply one reason why I write that there is little, in anything she can do wrong. For those who have never seen her in concert, treat yourself next time she comes around.
