Dee Snider Reveals 'American Made' Video

Dee Snider wears an American flag shirt in his new "American Made" video. The song is from the new album For The Love Of Metal. It's pretty heavy and a good time. I still haven't bought this album. I probably should. Have you?

is this the press package for U.D.O.'s new release, _Steelfactory_? I kid.

This is just a variation on what I (and many others) have already said about the songs on this album. He feels like he is reaching for something that feels authentic. But when you reach . . .

It has all the makings of an anthemic sing-a-long, perhaps pitched towards the truck nuts crowd. I dunno though. I just don't feel it. Quite frankly, I don't think Snider does either.

And all three of the recent videos have this (I was trying to figure out the right phrase) 'forced gravitas' feeling to them. Snider looks like he is trying to hit all the right pulse points (Truman quote, check; American flag, check; stock-looking footage of American workers working, check; etc.). But he often looks like he is trying to psych himself up to actually perform ("You can do it, Dee! Damn. You are the man! Show that crowd in the Poughkeepsie Ale and Burger Works that you still have it!!!").

I know I've already said this as well, but I don't like Dee's new album. It really does seem forced, and I don't think his voice fits these songs. That said, I'm glad it's doing well for him. Given that he has ridden the rollercoaster from rock royalty all the way down to being flat broke, and has figured out a way to make it part of the way back, I am happy for him and do not begrudge his success; even if I don't care for this new project.

Snyder has every opportunity to deliver some killer Metal. He’s still got his chops in spades yet, for some strange reason, can’t write a song to save his life whenever he tries going solo.

Maybe next year, he can try it again, only this time, he ought to recruit some serious songwriters to help him deliver the music he’s capable of making!

Surely, his Rolodex must be bursting with names of potential collaborators. Desmond Child on Line 2 ...
