More Consumerism

Bret Michaels is launching more products today for his all-new lifestyle line. Items include candles and cards. It's not all bad because proceeds go to Bret's Life Rocks charity, but still. If you need a card, go to the Dollar Tree. Or better yet, just talk to your friend or loved one in person or on the phone, save a dollar and the space in the landfill.

But the problem is the stuff is ugly and mediocre. If the products were custom designed by Michaels with the proverbial Rock & Roll skulls, Harley shapes, Poison Pink, black, silver and gold colors or sparkles they would be cool.
Instead ya got a bunch of crap from China with his name slapped on it. I recall from your previous post, his guitarist is the culprit behind all of this. I guess the guy had to do something to stay joined at the hip with Michaels because it sure as h*ll ain’t his mediocre guitar playing and songwriting.
For those of you who love mediocrity and are mediocre themselves, here’s your chance to waste money on some of the finest available!
All that said, getting my wife a Brett Michaels candle as a gag gift for Christmas would be pretty great...
Thing is (and Byron humorously gets at this point), what "portion" goes to charity? I dunno. I always wonder about this sort of thing.
And I have to say, the roll-out on this is garbage. Do it. Go check the links. They lead you into a blizzard of ugh. And the official explanation is no less confused. I quote:
"Bret Michaels Lifestyle & Collectibles is a unique concept to blend shopping and charity in the digital age. No auctions, no bidding, just click and purchase items from a variety of sources and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Life Rocks Foundation.
The shop will feature a combination of items that were purchased, owned and used by the Michaels household along with Bret’s Lifestyle candle collection offering shoppers a unique concept for giving back.
We encourage people to purchase some of these gently used items to donate back to local charitable organizations, toy drives, holiday shoebox donations etc as a way of helping two charitable organizations simultaneously."
Okay . . . what? And still no explanation regarding that "portion" thing. Listen, I am not excusing him of fleecing fans. But I am saying that you need to be upfront about where the money is going when you use the charity label. And I urge anyone who donates to his Life Rocks Foundation to also visit that site. It is not any easier to find out how the money is actually spent.
