March Is Metal Month, So Proclaims Amazon

March is metal month. At least that is what Amazon Music Unlimited proclaims. So I got sick of watching the Metal Month banner rotate and I finally clicked on it yesterday. There are special play lists, all metal. Here’s some examples:
- The Top 100 Most Played: Metal
- Metal Forge
- Metal Strikes
- Instrumental Metal for Studying (Mike Portnoy makes an appearance here)
- Dark Industrial Metal
… and of course, the 100 Greatest Hair Metal Songs
So you know which one I picked.
The “Hair Metal” playlist is everything you would expect, from Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” to Europe’s “The Final Countdown.” There isn’t a single rare track in the bunch but Hanoi Rocks does make an appearance. I will say you could pop this play list on during a party and walk away. Everyone would be happy because every song is recognizable.
If you want to get into the weeds, you can argue if Van Halen is “hair metal” because they are on this play list a lot (both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar versions). Motley Crue, Guns n’ Roses and Poison show up a ton. Queensryche is on the list, but again, are they “hair metal?” Not really, but they are always looped in with the genre and they seemed to embrace it in the 80s and now, quite frankly.
I have no idea if the Top 100 songs appear in any sort of ranking. The first track on the play list is “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and the last is “High Enough” by Damn Yankees. If there is some ranking afoot, I’d move Damn Yankees WAY higher in the list.
So try the play list if you want to listen to songs you love but have heard nine million times before. The play list is nearly seven and a half hours long. So great for a road trip, too!

Alright, one beef then. No KIX on the playlist at all? With all the ballads on there, at least "Don't Close Your Eyes" should have been on it, unless I missed it. And probably "Blow My Fuse" or "Cold Blood". But that's just one example, I'm sure there are dozens of songs you can argue either should or shouldn't be on there. Some other bands should have had at least another song on there in addition to the one (Skid Row, Warrant, Cinderella), but I'm nit-picking.
Amazon Music works well on my phone but I am an Android person. - Allyson
Is Apple Music truly bigger ? I mean Amazon is taking over the world. :) Can multiple logins be processed at the same time. Similar to Netflix as you can have up to 4 users at once logged on to the same account. Thanks in advance BBGers !! Seeing Buckcherry tomorrow night in a small bar type setting and Josh Todd is DJing after the show ? wonder what that is like ?
Up until recently, I was like you. Only bought music and had my own library, Started buying from iTunes because it was a hassle to get my hands on physical CD's. For the most part, anyway.
My son is 14. I was paying $10 a month for Apple Music for him anyway. That wasn't an option. He has no use for physical CD's. For another $5 bucks a month, I turned his single plan into the family plan and believe up to 4 people can use that plan (maybe 6 people. don't recall for sure). So for an extra $5 a month, I got access to the entire iTunes song library.
He has his own music on his phone. I have mine on my phone. Other than one charge monthly on my credit card, the accounts are totally independent.
I think the Apple iTunes library is bigger than Amazon's but don't quote me on that. I also love that you can download the music on your phone and listen offline. Don't need to use wifi. Silly me, I didn't know that until last year lol.
And all my devices are Apple. I don't know Android at all, except on my kindle Fire. And I am barely able to use that.
I don't keep many songs physically on my phone for space but I do have a few for plane trips and what not.

I don't have apple play on my car though. I just play what's on my phone through USB or Bluetooth.
To everyone else, thanks for the info. I do have all my stuff on itunes to obviously put on my ipod, so apple music might be the way to go, but my phone is an android ? hmmm :)
Agree with the pro Apple people here ... I’ve probably owned 7 Apple computers in my life and 4 iPhones, currently using the iPhone X Max with all the candy and it is a TOTAL dream. In fact, all my stuff is Apple for obvious reasons which, once you buy into the whole Apple eco-system thing, you’ll understand.
What I really want are those new cylindrical wireless speakers. They’re not cheap at $379, but, get this ... Buy one which sounds fantastic and then when you get more dough, by the second, set it up and the other one AUTOMATICALLY recognizes it in the room and then calibrates to have both of them play in stereo! Who the h*ll else can do that?
The biggest benefit to Apple, in my mind is the sheer elegance of EVERY aspect of design of their products and services.
SO, Apple Music, hands down!
It’s worth the 10 bucks, easily on sheer selection, clean user interface design and easy-to-use navigation. Plus you can share the playlists you create with all your friends who also have Apple Music.
What’s more, since Apple bought Shazam you can use that app to identify nearly ANY song on a TV show, in a Movie or playing in a restaurant, really anywhere where music might be playing and add it to any of your Apple playlists effortlessly.
And, I’m not done ... Apple Music makes excellent recommendations for you based on your musical preferences. I would never even known about Hank Von Hell, who I selected as my #1 on my “Best of 2018” list had it not been for Apple Music, let alone Ghost, Greta Van Fleet and so much of the new stuff to come out recently, literally many hundreds of recommendations a year in the Hard Rock / Metal category alone.
p.s. Just think, Rita, we would have our dream Apple Music playlist playing at our wedding reception!
