Motley Crue Week: Hair Nation Takeover

Here's a heads up: It's Motley Crue week over on SiriusXM too. Looks like there's a lot of Crue going on at Hair Nation the next few days. Special stories, interviews and lots of music of course!

First concert ever. So it's July 17, 1990 and its the summer between my jr & sr year(I'm 16 at the time), & I have tickets to see my first concert ever, of a band that I had idolized for the last 3 years, with posters of the band plastered everywhere on my bedroom wall... The gd Crüe.
As I'm getting ready to go with an even more motley crew(2 car loads) of my buddies, to Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky, my mom suddenly calls me on the house phone, from her work, asking if I was planning on going to a concert. See, I had secretly gotten tickets to the show and was worried my mom may not let me go, if I had asked(again, only 16), so I didn't. Always easier to beg for forgiveness, than ask for permission, ya know? Lol. Well to make a long story short I was actually able to sweet talk her and convince her to let me go.

Needless to say that night was an absolute game changer for me! What a way to start a show it was, seeing Vince explode up, from underneath the stage, as the neon lights were flashing relentlessly, whilst Alister Fiend can be heard preparing us all for the epic show we are all about to behold. As the band started playing, I felt numb at first. Then as the chills slowly disappeared, I was in my very own, authentic heaven, for the next hour and a half. About halfway through the show me and my buddy moved from our nosebleed seats and somehow snuck onto the floor, with amazing seats for the rest of the show. Over 100 shows & over 25 years later and that's still my favorite concert that I've ever seen. I've seen the boys 9 other times since then and to me, they've all been phenomenal. But no show will ever top that first unforgettable one for me. Horns up & CRÜE FOREVER 🤘🏼

Awesome story, bkallday. I would love more of that from you. Like Metalboy! said, you took us there and I can only imagine how perfect that night was for you.

The Sirius/XM thing is in full swing right now. Lots of snippets of the boys introducing songs. Lots of Crue, and also a good portion that aren't the usual rotation. Tommy sounds like he is on medication mixed with Marlboros. Vince sounds surprisingly spry.

I think Hair Nation should do more of these sorts of spotlights in the future, and not just when a band is about to drop their new movie or album. It helps to break up the repetition that plagues the playlists on Sirius/XM.

Bkallday that is a fantastic story and I'm very jealous you got to see them on that tour.
I agree with you Him, I havent listened to any Sirius XM channels in a long time just because of how stale it has gotten. They really need to do something to change up their formula as in doing more of these kind of specials with specific bands, especially if they're dropping a new album. I know it's a built in fan base that listens to these channels, but Sirius could really start moving the needle if they got more creative with their formula. Not just Hair Nation but with all of the channels. They can introduce new styles of radio shows so they can legitimately compete with all other media.
