Aerosmith Planning Hits Medley During Grammy Awards
Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 07:15AM
Aerosmith will be honored as the 2020 MusiCares Person Of The Year. MusiCares is a charity of the GRAMMY organization. Now, Aerosmith will perform during the live Grammy award on January 26 snd RUN D.M.C. will join them onstage. Apparently, Aerosmith is planning a medley of hits and that is where RUN D.M.C. comes in. The groups collaborated on a remake of "Walk This Way" in the 1980s. I am looking forward to the Aerosmith medley. Really, this is the only reason I plan on watching the Grammy awards telecast.

Even though I hate to say, you have to commend "Country" Music for saying f* it, we'll do our own shows to get talent showcased. But then again, most country is posing as pop music with a short hair metal guitar solo on the bridge... so...
Though the gimmick of having Aerosmith on the show does boost ratings for a certain older demographic, astonishingly, they don’t need a lot of gimmickry this year because of the star-studded line-up set to perform.
To Allyson’s point, though, Aerosmith’s medley will be the show’s only real highlight for the Rock & Rollers like us.
Nevertheless, barring any unforeseen surprises like Brandi Carlisle’s stunning performance on last year’s show, which drew a huge standing ovation from the crowd including all the rappers, aside from Aerosmith, it will all be pretty much by the numbers except for a handful of edgy artists such as Billy Eilish, among others.
- The Grammy's like to have a big "nostalgic" rock act on the show, and I mean that lovingly. Usually the open or close the show. Remember AC/DC a few years ago ... Van Halen as well, and now Aerosmith. I'm sure it's to prop up ratings and get some of us old geezers to watch because otherwise many wouldn't as the guitar is an instrument that usually doesn't make an appearance beyond those acts.
- The "gimmick" to me this year seems to be Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani. Two lovebirds who haven't performed together in public that I know of. Zero interest from me for that.
- There's a lot of female pop acts. Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Demi Lovato, Camila Cabelo. I'm actually surprised Taylor Swift isn't performing, but who knows the Grammy's like surprises. I love myself a good pop song sung as much as the next guy, but really, a lot of these acts are very similar (maybe give Lizzo an exception).
- I haven't seen who the obligatory country act is that will perform, but there always are a couple and frankly that's when the entire room takes their bathroom break. Good thing country has their own award shows, they always seem out of place at these gigs with a totally disinterested audience.
- Billie Eilish ... I have to admit, that "bad guy" song is killer and I love it. Many made fun of her when she didn't know who Van Halen was in some interview, but Wolfie put that to bed nicely and props to him for that. I mean she's only Seventeen (pun intended, though she will have no clue who Winger is), so I'll give her a pass on that as well. Anyway, I like her back story, and her relationship with her brother who co-creates all of her music and plays bass on tour with her. Always excited to see what she does.
- Oh and of course, no show like this would be complete without the Jonas Brothers. Say what you want, but at least one of the three actually plays a guitar in the band, and another one sometimes will even strap on an electric guitar (what??) so that may be as "rocky" as it gets (other than Aerosmith) lol.
I will record it like I do most of these shows and just watch the performances I like, which will include Aerosmith. There's always a few of those "Grammy moments" that will stand out. I love music - most genres except rap - and even though my preference clearly is "glam rock" (why else be on this site?), I'll enjoy the show for what it is.
Sorry for rambling. My real rant today is with the RNR HOF nominations and the travesty that institution has become .....
Cant stand Eilish, Jonas Brothers,or any of those pop broads you named. Never thought id hear that someone on this board likes those "artists". But to each their own, i guess! Lol
But make no mistake, I'm a glam rocker at heart, always was and always will be.
And I should have added that in addition to hating rap, I hate grunge ... with a passion.
All the Grammys are is an opportunity to make as much money as possible. They play it relatively safe so they don't lose adverti$ment dollars and viewers, don't believe me? Think about the majority of the people who will be watching with interest...
It's cool to see artist/bands nominated like Gary Clark Jr, Rival Sons, Death Angel, etc, but the majority of the spotlight goes to the same pop and r&b nonsense they shove down our throats at every turn.
If this show is truly a celebration of great music the past year you wouldn't see the same acts all the time mixed in with the flavor of the month.
My last point is (and sorry for rambling) what does it do for an artist or band if they win a Grammy? Boost of popularity? Maybe for fifteen minutes because that's the attention span in America. Getting recognized for your hard work? Recognition from who? I would think an artist's get more satisfaction from making an impact on the true fans and growing their audience in a natural way.
Okay last point (I mean it this time) Billie Eilish is a breath of fresh air, not necessarily something I would listen to, but the little bit I've heard it's cool that she's doing something fresh and different and people seem to love it, especially with her background like people have mentioned before.
Anyways im done with my rant, get off my lawn while I wait for the Slayer stadium reunion tour announcement in five years.
