AC/DC 'Shot In The Dark' -- Full Audio

It is finally here: full audio of the new AC/DC track "Shot In The Dark." It is great, classic hard rock, just as you would expect.

We need this after the horrible Eddie Van Halen news. I am still looking for the words to talk about Eddie. It is just unfathomable to me that he is gone now. Hopefully this new track cheers you up a little. It did make me smile.

Pure Awesomeness

As expected, the slower-speed AC/DC of fore, not yore. Still pretty darn good, all things considered. I leave others to parse out how "pure" this "awesomeness" is in fact. But it is like your favorite dive bar. It feels comfortable. Nothing wrong with that right now.

Personally, I love the fact that the human metronome is back behind the kit and behaving himself! Again, just personally (I guess it would have to be), I am finding Williams' (new) explanation about why he quit back in 2016 to be par for the course with the band and how it revisits and revises who does what under the awning of AC/DCorp. That said, vertigo would be a good name for an AC/DC song. And, of course, if this is it . . . I am glad it is with Johnson on board. I hope the rest of the album is this, um, consistent.

A friend of mine who knows I post on here sent me and several others the link to this today. I applauded the same-ole-same-ole sound. Another friend, who also knows I post on here, shot back: "Safe in NYC"? I had to laugh, given my recent posts. But I did correct him. This song is Shakespeare compared to that song!

Final thought: I heard Trunk on Hair Nation the other day talking about the problems that AC/DC faces in touring this album. I think he was right (say what you will, and you will!). They are a stadium band these days, or at least big arenas, or on an off day, large outdoor pavilions. So when can they logistically bring this show on the road? Not to end on a damp note. But I fear that is a really good question to ponder, even as we enjoy the fruits of their (and Mal's) labor.

ACDC is one of my three favorite bands and I definitely like this song. I like it better than Play Ball and Rock or Bust, and stuff like Stiff Upper Lip. So I’m pretty happy these days and hopeful that the album will be decent (I’m definitely not expecting another BiB and I’m fine with that). At the same time, not to get too negative, but I am hoping this is not the best song on the album. It if it is, I can’t help but feel that it might end up being underwhelming. And one last thing, the solo on this song really bothers me. There’s a key change Halfway through that is really jarring to my ears. It doesn’t work for me at all. Anyone else bothered by it?

Basileus, not being a musician myself, I would never have heard it. And, saying that, I went back and I 'think' I heard it. What say you? Sloppy playing? Odd choice? I respect your opinions, so I would even ask if you could time-stamp the chord change in question.

Your other points are also well-taken, though I refer back to my later-stage AC/DC comments as context for how I listen to them nowadays. Quick (additional) question: do you like the song that I mentioned a week or so ago, "Rock the Blues Away"? As I noted then, I think that is one of the better songs from this era of the band. It, to my mind, plays to their contemporaneous strengths.

I’m not a musician myself, so I can’t explain what’s going on from a technical point of view. The song changes key, I think, at the beginning of the solo, when they play a new riff around the 2:06 until the 2:14-2:15 mark, when it goes back to the song’s main groove. To me the initial transition comes off as seamless and gets the solo started in great fashion, frankly i wish they had kept that riff going a little longer. but when it comes back to the main groove at the 2:14-2:15 mark the transition is very clunky to my ears, kind of unpleasant, in fact.

Take a look at it here:

Thanks, Basileus, for following up on that. Turns out, both of our untrained ears caught that irregularity. Like I said, I didn't catch it initially. But now that you pointed it out it is hard _not_ to hear it. Perhaps Rudd's cig smoke got in Angus' eyes!
