Those cops might have a hard time chasing anyone down while wearing high heels.

All kidding aside, I listened to the whole Cherry Pie album for the first time in probably 25+ years and, you know what, that’s a great album. No bad songs, great production (the guitars sound big and crunchy). A, dare I say it, glam classic?

Agreed, Basileus. Not one bad song on it, except for the title track being played out of course. Blind Faith has always been my guilty pleasure off that one. Their catalog(with jani) is really great though, & those last 3 studio releases never got the attention or respect they deserved imo, esp Dog Eat Dog! I saw them live in a small club here in Louisville, called the Toy Tiger, many times. They were a truly awesome live band when Jani wasn’t too wasted but even when he was, it was still always a blast. Jani was so talented and such a gifted musician, I wonder a lot about what their future could’ve been if they would’ve been able to stay together. But Jani had his demons and it’s just sad how that great lineup ended, & how he went out. I’ll always have the memory of him handing me the mic in the front row, & letting me help him sing at one of those shows though. I’ll always have a soft spot for the material that lineup released, and especially for that era. 😊

Poster reminds me of a Bon Jovi Photo who were at the time the band they would probably emulate. Right after Winger, Warrant took some undeserved shots

Dog eat Dog is my all time favorite.I honestly like them all. Belly to Belly I just played yesterday. Ultra phobic is still in my rotation. I met Jani in the hotel at the first M3. He was getting out of a cab. Chatted with him for about 10 minutes. He really seemed like a sweet soft spoken guy. He was sippin on an Odouls . He was trying with his sobriety. He said it’s hard not to party being surrounded by it all the time. He told me He likes to fly in do the show and get out to limit any temptation.. Losing him so early sucked.

Among my all time favorite memories ever are the two separate occasions we got to hang with Jani and Jerry in the late 90's after some of their shows. Both were super nice guys and a lot of fun to party with. I still regret we did not skip work the next day to go shopping with them and party some more, as they suggested. What a big mistake we didn't take them up on that. That would have been fun too.

Jani was awesome. He was a great guy, as everybody says here. He played us some songs he was working on for his solo album on his bus that night. How lucky were we.

And another amazing moment i will never forget was being on Vince Neil's bus while he and Jani were talking about whether Vince should rejoin the Crue. Vince was super nice too. I will never bad mouth him.

I cried for weeks after Jani died. Such talent. Such a shame his demons won. RIP.

Bkallday / Jack T. Ripper, Dog Eat Dog was badass from start to finish. I'm sure they lost some fans with that one, from Cherry Pie to April 2031 is some serious growth. Cock rock fans probably had a hard time with Andy Warhol was Right. I knew Jani could write great songs but the material on DED was next level and considering Cherry Pie was anything but deep it's hard to wrap your head around the same guy writing Bitter Pill. I know this record like the back of my hand, Belly to Belly and Ultra Phobic are great as well. The only time I saw Warrant was on one of the Poison package tours in very late 90's or early 2000's. Warrant took all of them to task, Jani was sober and he sounded great. All the people I talked to at the show who didn't like Warrant had a change of heart. Jani was one one of (if not ) the best songwriters of the genre.

Oh, I liked the first two Warrant albums as well.

Bkallday,

I hear what you are saying about the song Cherry Pie being overplayed. It is. But when I evaluate an album i try to remain objective and leave aside factors like whether it is overplayed or whether it was accompanied by an overly cheesy video. The fact is, when it was first created, and before it was ultimately overplayed, it was good, catchy song with a great groove. I can put aside my current feelings about the song and Say that it is hrwat even if I can barely stand to listen to it at present.

Breaks my heart every time I think about him passing. One truly gifted guy that gave up way to soon and not gave up but succumbed to the demons with.

On another Warrant note they finally admitted Mike Slamer played most of the solo's on the first three albums.

Bkallday, thanks for sharing those thoughts. I love it when posters on here contextualize their memories for the rest of us. Awesome stuff!

And I love hearing about other posters' fondness for this band and for Lane in particular. I was a late bloomer when it comes to appreciating what they brought to the table. But better late than never!
