Whitesnake Announces 'The Blues Album'

Mark Feb. 19 on your calendar. That is the day Whitesnake will release The Blues Album. From the band:

The Blues Album showcases two of the band’s biggest songs: “Slow An’ Easy,” a Top 20 Mainstream Rock hit in 1984 from Whitesnake’s double-platinum album Slide It In, and a brand new guitar based remix of the smash hit “Give Me All Your Love” from the band’s 1987 self-titled album, which was certified multi multi platinum. Other choice tracks from Whitesnake are also featured: “Looking For Love” and “Crying In The Rain,” and “Steal Your Heart Away,” which is available now.

Ah yes. Another repackaged greatest hits album, albeit by 'theme' (chortle) and with an updated guitar 'remix' for those who had been waiting patiently (guffaw). To think, Coverdale did all this . . .even after the Love and Rock albums that sold in the 100,000s (giggle, give or take).

I admit, I dug _Slide It In_. I even admit that I was taken with the eponymous album back in the day. But nowadays I prefer the pre-US stuff (including the UK mix of _Slide_). Some of the early stuff was blues-ish. But no one ever watched Jeopardy and the answer to "Who is the world's best white male blues singer?" was David Coverdale.

Dear me, Coverdale is metal's Michael Bolton (and I say that full well knowing all about "Fool's Game"), searching for a niche, finding it, and then squeezing the ever living heck out of it. Speaking of which, have you heard his background singers lately? They sound great.

Thing is, Dave doesn't. Retire. Rest on your laurels. You had the hits. You were amazing back in the day. And stop with all the bloody (figured I would affect a Brit) repackaging of songs everyone who ever listened to you already owns and has no particular interest in buying again. And, even if you do keep releasing this sort of stuff, please, please, please . . . no more live albums. It's getting kinda' sad.
