Well, This Is Something

Talk about a statement: is Jake E. Lee a better guitarist than Randy Rhoads? I don't agree - do you?

No.

What Gary said.

I wish Ace was still around to offer his pointed rejoinder, knowing how close he was with the family.

I really wish we had a chance to see how RR developed as he matured. Obviously, that wasn't possible and, really, who knows what would have happened. But it would likely have been glorious.

That said, JEL is no slouch. A bit odd. Seems to still be a recluse haunted by largely (note, I said largely) unspecified demons. And he had the unfortunate luck of being tied to one of those lovely sort of relationships with Ozzy and Sharon that people like Daisley and Kerslake (RIP) were always so fond of revisiting. Didn't help that his next band was cut short by, well, you know the story.

I hate putting two guitarists that I both enjoy "against" each other to say one is better than the other. I find "better" at an instrument very subjective ... especially for professional musicians.

Plus better at what? The actual playing of the instrument, or the creation or writing of songs? Some guitarists may not be the best technically, but can write a killer riff, hook or solo. And that's what most important to me.

That said, team Randy on this one ;-)

I saw Jake E. Lee, POINT BLANK, needless to say, on The Monsters of Rock Cruise quite a number of years ago ...

Needless to say, he pretty much blew everyone off the stage.

That said, Rhoads is superior simply because he came first and Lee is a disciple.
