It's True. All Of It.

A new study shows that heavy metal lowers blood pressure and anxiety. I know when I am feeling blue, heavy music nearly always puts me in a better mood. How about you?

Lamb of God actually increases my blood pressure. But Kick Axe's "Heavy Metal Shuffle" tend to put me in just the right mood.

For me, personally, metal is the main music that reminds me of why I am glad to be alive (when it comes to music, though there are other genres that can do that too). I'd love to see how the authors compiled their results, as I don't think that 'angry music' is necessarily the only way for people to find a release. And I note some huge qualifiers in that article. All well and good. If it starts to depress me, or make me feel bad, "HEAVY METAL SHUFFLE"!!!

And Allyson has shared her playlists for when she is working out, sometimes with music that is clearly not metal. So I think that this might have something to do with nurture, with how music triggers things--good and bad--as tied to past experiences. But what do I know? I just had my office (my other tent) torn apart by feral dogs. HEAVY METAL SHUFFLE!!!

I have used the term "metal therapy" for years. After a bad day at work, there's nothing better than blasting some loud, aggressive music on the drive home.

What are your picks, Bryon? Just curious.
