AC/DC Live In 1976

From Australian TV in 1976: AC/DC perform "It's A Long Way To The Top." This performance is epic fire. AC/DC even makes bagpipes cool!

Putting aside the obvious 'live' issue (the echo at one point always makes me smile, as does Bon's effortless bag-piping . . . as I have seen this numerous times before), this just cements Bon's status for me.

What a lovable goof just dripping with the sort of magnetic personality you can't fake!!! He turned the classic Napoleon Complex into an asset. And he wore pants so tight you could rightfully claim there was a sixth member of AC/DC!!! He managed crowds like a master and left a crater in the middle of AC/DC when he died (the anniversary of which, was a little less than a month ago). It's saying something that the boys dusted themselves off and that Johnson managed so well in the wake his death.

I still prefer this version of the band, largely because of Bon. But I also love the Johnson-fronted version. And there is a lot to love: Mal's manic playing in back while Angus hogs the front; Phil's effortless time-keeping; etc., etc. And, while I have soured on certain aspects of the band as time has gone on, I owe them a debt for being such an important part of my soundtrack growing up.

Sadly, long gone Bon. But certainly not forgotten! Cheers!

Thanks, Crued. I appreciate the compliment. I would love to think that a gathering of the BBG! tribe was possible. It would be wonderful to meet the people that make this place such a wonderful site.

And, yeah, man ...

Gotta agree, Bon was the man, hands down! ...

Had the pleasure of seeing ‘em ( POINT BLANK, naturally) 3 times with Bon - 1978 (off “Powerage”) and 1979 (twice off “Highway to H*ll”)

I then saw ‘em 5 times with Johnson plus had the pleasure of meeting the band off “Stiff Upper Lip” at a record signing at Virgin Megastore in Times Square (told that story many times here so I won’t recap yet again) where they gave me the royal treatment much to the chagrin of store security, haha!!

The last time I saw them was with Axl fronting while Johnson rested his voice (I wonder if he’ll ever come back live?), which was COMPLETELY killer! ... This was the first time Angus had been able to retune his quit at to Bon Scott era tuning ... I could elaborate what that implies but I’ll leave it at that! ... Well, except for this — One of THE BEST shows I’ve ever seen in my life!!!
