'Rock and Roll All Nite' -- New Cover

Here's a fun cover of the KISS class "Rock and Roll All Nite." Green Day performed the song during the Hella Mega Tour and released the track and video officially yesterday. It's a great cover. The guys in Green Day did the original justice. It doesn't sound cartoony or corny. Just straight up rock and fun. Enjoy!

Pleasantly surprised by this. Nothing too outside the box. Basically, just the song . . . played by another band. Certainly better than the horrid cover that Poison did.

That said, Metalboy! had a point several times (so, several points?!?!?): if you are just doing the song by-the-numbers, what's the point? I suppose, in a live setting, a good song is a good song and gets people moving. So there's that I guess. I consider taking on a 'classic' song a huge challenge for musicians. So, in another way, one wonders what people think of Ghost's take on "Enter Sandman." To my ears, Ghost made the song a bit more of their (meaning: Forge's) own while still leaning on the original's foundation. To be fair, though, I don't really like it as much as I hoped I would like it. Which is also a problem: a 'classic' song will always be the baseline from which you measure a cover, even if you don't try to do that. And, as most of you know, I LOVE Ghost!

Just thinking about it right now, three covers that stand out to me (and I know we have had this conversation before) are Ghost's "Bible," the Bulletboys' "Hang on St. Christopher," and Tom Jones and Stereophonics' "Mama Told Me Not to Come." The latter being quite close to the original in a certain sense, though much more dripping with innuendo than the original. Come to think about it, Jones' _Reload_ is a pretty good cover album (and I don't really like Jones save as a live act . . . yes, I have seen him live several times).
