'Let's Go Crazy'
Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 12:01AM
Our beloved Dirty Honey boys are back with a new cover of the Prince classic "Let's Go Crazy." The song was released on New Year's Eve - a nice nod to the holiday I suppose. It's an interesting take on the famous track and the guitar solo is great. This will be another great one for Dirty Honey to perform live. I added to my music library and this will probably make it to my running rotation too. Check it out below!

But then again who in the world could successfully match Prince in his prime? Kinda like when you hear a Beatles cover-it's just not the same.
But, come on Bkallday, there is nothing folk-ish about their music. Nothing. Nada. If you, like Jeff, don't dig them? That's cool. But you have to stretch (and I know you like the burpees and the reps) to find anything folk-adjacent about them.
I also agree with you Mike. They are definitely mining some well-tilled ground. But they are respectful about it (same with Joyous Wolf; heck, even Babylon Shakes). Grating Von Fleeting rob from those who robbed others, get mad when people notice it, then shift over to see if anyone notices they are in a "RUSH" to find new influences. Let me put it this way: GVF are like a less enjoyable Kingdom Come. Lenny Wolf was also reticent to admit his homage. But at least he perked up his pillaging with some great songs (even when KC became his solo band basically). The guy had talent for stealing, and a great band behind him initially.
both of you have taken potshots and bands I like, so it's nice to see the barrel on someone else :)
I will second what @Him said about Kingdom Come. Read that and had to run to my turntable to give "Perfect Song" (aka "Perfect O") a spin.
Somebody please point out the Rush influence in GVF because I don't hear it at all. The internets are all awash with "Heat Above," but other than Josh Kiszka's vocal range, there isn't any similarity, to my ears anyway.
But tbh it’s more like hippie rock. If that’s even a genre. 🤷🏻♂️
You make a good point too, Gogmagog. It really is, at least to me, about Kiszka's vocals on the newest album. I certainly would never class ReGretta Von Listening to Rush!!! And I don't even care for Rush that much. I wish they would just own their inspirations and then, perhaps, move a bit beyond them. Watching them, and then listening to them in interviews, is just grating. They act like they are humble babes, but come off like spoiled brats who were raiding their father's album collection and won't own up to the platters from which they nicked. I also see your point about the cover by DH. It is unique. It isn't just a copy (though some copies are good). But, for me, it just didn't work. No harm there. And you had me laughing too! _In Your Face_ saw KC stretching out (see my point above about Grating Von Beef). But the haters wouldn't let them. Sad really.
Crued, all the potshots on here are meant to be taken with a grain of salt, a wink, and a good laugh. If you give as good as you get, you get what you paid for . . . which is zero.
& it ain’t even close. Dirty Honey is no more original than GVF is, if you ask me.
But you are doing one of your classics: you are shifting positions/topics s as you see fit. Again, nothing wrong with that. But at least acknowledge that you are doing it. If you want to discuss which band is more original, you are on your own. I think they are both original, at least in the sense that they are writing and recording (for the most part) _original_ material. The question was more about how they wear their influences, no less how willing they are to admit to those influences.
My initial point was that I didn't think DH's cover was that great, even if I like them quite a bit. My follow-up point was that I don't like GVF, for the reasons I mentioned. So I guess you and I disagree again. Go figure?!?!? And you don't want to address my 'folk' comments? Fine by me. Classic Bkallday.
And I think that is why I enjoy chatting with you. It is always fun, even if it occasionally skips and shifts. As Hurricane once said: "I'm on to you." So hoist your GVF flag high. You be you. Him be him (the third person thing is a bit much, right?).
