Manitoba's Wild Kingdom - 'The Party Starts Now!'

Ok this is a new one on me: I came across a website listing obscure bands and songs. I mostly knew everything on the list... but Manitoba's Wild Kingdom is a new one on me. Apparently "The Party Starts Now!" is the band's "biggest" song. It is kind of catchy. The band is actually punk and formed back in 1986. I like a little obscurity on a boring Monday.

Fin on WEBN started Big Hair Wednesday every week with this song. Three of the members of the band were in the Dictators in the 1970s. Dee Snider's son Jesse Blaze covered the song several years ago.

You gotta fight for your right to plagiarize. Not a direct knockoff, I know, but they sure jumped right on that Beastie Boys bandwagon.

Gogmagog, to be fair, one band fought for the right to party. The other was just interested in telling you when said party began . . . without, of course, Kerry King!!!

The thematic layer you didn't really address (and it is a bit of a stretch, genre-wise) is that Eddie Murphy didn't care about when it started or who had the right to party. He just knew a gal who partied all the time and it seemed to worry him somewhat.

I would get a bit metaphysical and discuss World Party. But that is a band, not a song. And, really, who has the time? Maybe, just maybe, the Waterboys?

New to this site, very much enjoying it and the links. The Party Starts now got just a few plays on Headbaners Ball very late in the show when it came out.
