2023 RokIsland Festival Lineup Announced

It looks like the next RokIsland Festival will be a good one.

The event is scheduled for January 17 - 21, 2023 in Key West, Florida. Styx, Loverboy, Tesla and another act TBA will headline. Other bands on the bill include Extreme, .38 Special, Quiet Riot, Stephen Pearcy and more. Tickets go on sale to the general public July 6. I know some of the regular BBG! readers went to the event last year. The reviews were all pretty good - and escaping the cold of January is never a bad idea!

Though some of those bands are faded a bit nowadays (Quiet Riot, Autograph . . . I would mention a couple of others, but I fear I might get people angry!), that is a pretty decent nostalgia line-up. Wonder why REO could find the time to join their two other current tour partners? Perhaps Kevin is tired. Fighting that feeling wears on you when you get older.

Either way, nice to see some love for bands from up North (at least from where I sit). Loverboy were always like Foreigner's spastic Canadian brother (from another mother). And Helix? Well, Helix were always Helix. I recall seeing them in a conference room/ballroom in Kalispell, MT, back in the 80s. Vollmer was wearing a denim jacket with an appropriately non-PC patch. Several times, he climbed up on the stacks (not too high, granted) and would jump and roll across the not-too-big stage. It was a blast! Honeymoon Suite? Never a big fan. But they had some AOR chops. "Love Changes Everything" was and is a great song. If only they brought out April Wine this would be a true North sorta' concert!!! Alas, I can still rock myself to sleep. Giggle.

Wish I could justify the trip. I hope those that go report back to BBG! I envy you.

The lowest tier is 449. The highest is a buck short of 1K, and includes food. All for five days. In Key West. In January?!?!

As I said, I envy those who can go. So, I guess Jack and I get to keep our bucks for other bangs? Yuck. That didn't sound right.

This is a good value . . . in this market, at this time, given what else we have to consider. Is it great? Nah. Is is good? Yes. Compare this to the current state of Aftershock (or other similar ventures in the good ole USA). In saying this, I am making a price/quality argument.
