Journey Releases New Track For Independence Day
Monday, July 4, 2022 at 01:36PM
There's another new Journey song. It's called "United We Stand" and they released it today - Independence Day in America - for obvious reasons. The song is on the band's upcoming album Freedom.
CNN is airing a concert and fireworks special for the holiday tonight and Journey will perform.
More than ever, we need to take care of each other and look after one another. “United We Stand” is a reminder that together we can make a difference. “United We Stand” is out now🇺🇸 https://t.co/x2UvnoOimz pic.twitter.com/s1637ug1Q8

(United) united we stand
(Divided) divided we fall
Love conquers all
Even when darkness comes to call
(United) united we stand
(Divided) divided we fall
Just hold onto me girl now
And together we can face it all
Really? And I say this knowing that Journey has released unto the world some cheese, so much so that those who are lactose intolerant (the best form of intolerance, if you are going to be so inclined) are warned not to listen to Journey for fear of a medical emergency. They have wheels in the sky, they can't stop believing, even if they believe there is a place called 'South Detroit'. And still, most of the time, they sold the Gouda. And they made a lot of cheddar doing so.
But this? It sounds like it was recorded in slow motion, in a blanket, inside a pillow, in a basement, by a robot who was holding a truly gifted and kind Journey cover band singer hostage. Raising Cain? Schon-nah-nah! This is a business that can't help but hurt it's legacy. And who expected less? When you are run by two principals who are diametrically opposed in all things aside money, this is what you get. It would be a cash grab if not for the fact that it puts people to sleep, those playing and those with pockets stupid enough to spill cash for this drivel. Ugh.
Counter-point: "Stone in Love." There's clover. Some sort of blue jean girl (I don't think she is relate to the one that Bowie was interested in, well, dating). And a stone. In love! Like I suggested, there is good cheese. And there is the opposite.
Side-bar: I know what "stone in" means. I mean, come on, the Stylistics. It is old school. Perry loved/s that stuff.
But, yeah, "Stone in Love" is a great song. It straddles the Rollie days while truly showing what the best of the Perry-era had to offer. Some slow parts, some rocking parts, something for everyone. I think it is better that "Don't Stop Believing" in terms of truly showing what 80;s Journey was capable of doing for that AOR sound.
Hope you are well, Kixchix. Thanks for the reply.
