Farewell Darryl Hunt
Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 06:07PM
Darryl Gatwick Hunt, bass player for The Pogues, has died. He passed yesterday at age 72 but no cause of death was given. The band officially called it quits in 2014 but their following has remained strong.
We are saddened beyond words. Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon in London.

The Pogues occupy an interesting niche. They were more interesting and honest than a band like, say, Flogging Molly. They were also a powder-key due to the manic maneuvers of lead Shane MacGowan. But they cranked out some great drinking songs, some heartfelt songs of loss, and also some wistful songs about class, culture, and creativity.
I'd urge people to check out their music. It is rough and beautiful at the same time. MacGowan's solo work with The Popes, is also worth a listen (see "The Church of the Holy Spook" and his duet with Sinead O'Connor on "Haunted" . . . which shouldn't work, but does).
