Nickelback Officially Release 'San Quentin' - And It Is Heavy
Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 04:18PM
I do love me some heavy Nickelback. The band's new track actually premiered on Octane - which is one of the metal channels on SiriusXM. I fully expect "San Quentin" will be another radio hit for Nickelback. In fact, I am already looking forward to the tour that will surely come after the new album drops in November.
Nickelback is an awesome - and very loud - live show. One of the best bands I've ever seen live - and I've been to a ton of shows! The new album Get Rollin' is due November 18. You can pre-order it now. I'll be adding "San Quentin' to my running playlist ASAP!

As I have said numerous times (and a few of those were in the last week), I get the band's popularity . . . and also why people throw some slags at them.
For me? It just doesn't do it. And I think this circles back to another post about what constitutes a 'modern metal' band. You can certainly here the more classic rock roots to the sound. But all of those 'effects' and that (to my ear) harsh mechanical edge to the production (or is it that the sound is too bright? I am not sure). And the chorus and that which comes after and before it?

I’m gonna…
Testify that I was right out of my mind
Let the record show I did it all for rock and roll.
Screamin’ every night, playin’ twenty-five to life.
So can somebody please keep me the hell out of
San Quentin.
Out of San Quentin.
Just keep me out of San Quentin.
Can somebody please keep me the hell out of
San Quentin.

Hmm. Yeah. Not for me. But I would write them letters in prison, just because they seem like nice fellas and I am a person who likes to write a lot (as you can tell).
Can I hear it played loud at a concert, with the fans singing along? Oh hell yeah. I just won't be there. And no one will miss me either! On the other hand, this sorta' song kinda' points to the reasons why Anvil never broke that big. As much as I don't care for Nickelback, they can write a song, and one that is ready made for fans.
And, again, not to be a geography snob, but what are these Canadians doing that would get them thrown into The Arena? Illegally importing maple syrup? Then again, it is hard to fit the New Edmonton Remand Centre (NERC) into a song (well, NERC and nark and . . . well, yeah, you get my point).
