The Best Aerosmith Covers Of All Time: Guns n' Roses

It's well documented that the members of Guns n' Roses have an affinity for Aerosmith. It's no surprise, then, that GnR covered Aerosmith early and often in their career.

"Mama Kin" is a song on Aerosmith's self-titled debut album. Steven Tyler wrote the song and he famously has the title tattooed on his arm. The band once owned a bar in Boston called "Mama Kin Music Hall."

Guns n' Roses included a live version of "Mama Kin" on their 1988 album Lies.

Axl Rose's vocals are undeniably distinct, and he brings his unique voice to the cover. While Steven Tyler's original vocals are hard to match (and really can't be), Axl's interpretation adds a new layer of energy to the track. His soaring high notes and raspy delivery provide a fitting tribute to the original.

When G&R opened for Aerosmith on the 1988/1989 tour, Axl used to come out toward the end of Aerosmith's set to sing "mama Kin" with Tyler. There are plenty of bootlegs in great sound out there where you can hear this for yourself. I saw it happen at the Meadowlands in New Jersey on that legendary Summer night in '88 when Deep Purple was also on the bill.
