What Is Metal? Information That Saves Lives!

In lieu of our regular Sunday Spins feature, we have a guest post from our friend HIM about a very important topic that impacts all of us:

I always say that the metal community is a tolerant bunch. Opinionated? Sure. But open to and respectful of a lot of viewpoints, lifestyles, and the like. When people suffer, we respond. When issues need to be addressed, we raise our voices and shout. While we might not be as popular as we once were, we are still the same people.

You know what isn’t tolerant? Cancer. It hates everyone. People of all shapes, sizes, colors, religions and musical leanings. It is a nasty thing. I have lost people I love to cancer. I suspect we all have. And the frustrating thing is that we are no closer to find a cure, or cures. For every wonderful case of remission, there are countless lives lost and thousands of people left mourning a person they will never again get a chance to see.

So how do a tolerant bunch fight an intolerant disease? Simple. Information. This video is proof positive that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (especially when the latter is currently lacking). I warn you, though, this isn’t your typical US-style talk show. This is the British show This Morning. And there is a wee bit of nudity:

The hosts? Interested and engaged. That doctor, Sara Kayat? Informative. The woman? She is model Leeanne Adu, who was diagnosed with breast cancer. That Adu puts herself out there for everyone to see, in pursuit of a good cause, is amazing. And necessary. To my mind, it is also soooooo metal! She is doing what is right so as to help others. Shame? None. Fear? Not at all. Adu is a warrior willing to fight for others by setting an example.

I wish the US had a less prudish approach to health messaging. I wish we could turn on our TVs and see this type of information. We don’t. And we can’t. For those who might find this to be a bit too much? Well, I guess you aren’t metal enough to handle it. For every woman who watches this and finds treatment sooner rather than later? My horns go up to you and to Adu.

HIM "I have lost people I love to cancer. I suspect we all have."

100% HIM ... it haunts my past, my present, and likely my future. Thanks for raising our collective awareness.

I love metal, and am tolerant of a lot of things(not everything), but cancer is something we can all rally against! It took my daddy at 34, when I was 7 yrs old. My hope is that one day in the next 100 yrs, someone is able to find a cure for this. 🤘🏼

Thank you, London and Bkallday, for posting.

I hope, like both of you, that there is a future where the word cancer is discussed like polio, or other such scourges, that destroyed lives and left people hurting.

And thanks to all of you who read this and didn't post. All I ask? Just share the information. Like the worst of things, information can also be contagious!

Wishing all of you the best.
