Steel Panther Advance On 'America's Got Talent'

With "Eyes of a Panther," Steel Panther made it through the audition round on America's Got Talent last night. This means they will go on to compete in the next round. The winner of AGT gets a one million dollar prize.

I was amused that AGT used the fake Behind The Music documentary that Steel Panther put out several years ago. I mean, it's been awhile because Jani Lane was even in it. The band members said they've been together 40 years and really played it up like they are from the Sunset Strip era. I swear some of judges (Howie Mandel) and host Terry Crews believed this, but whatever.

The audience seemed to love the way of the Panther and that can only mean great things in our quest to Bring Back Glam. Still... what in the world will the band sing next? A Van Halen cover?

Is it me or does anyone find is unpatriotic for America's Got Talent have four foreigners as judges?

Simon- Europe
Heidi- Germany
Howie- Canada
The Latin Girl from Modern Family who hired The Panther for her husband's birthday.

That's called a Shocker!

Ripper? Bk? Thoughts?

Ally - Honestly, they'll play it safe and play The Burdon of Being Wonderful. I'm even guessing that Rob Lowe will make an audience guest appearance.

Starr's got the face of a . . . well, you know.

In other news, there is no such thing as bad publicity. At least that is what they once said. So good for SP for milking this little stunt for all it is worth. Yeah, they will make it far with their entirely PC, easy listening, sounds and groovy, all-ages, lyrics. Wink. Wink. Man, it would stink if they got eliminated. Nudge. Nudge. What will they do then?!?!?

If this had been more tongue-in-cheek it would have been more fun. But, then again, this is the dreck that counts as TV these days. Best that SP capitalize on that fact, esp. since their last album was a bit of a return to form. Funny thing is, both SP and AGT get some views from all of this. But isn't that actually the point?

And I am sure you all noticed that lovely Starship song--I mean, the best song ever recorded--playing after they finished and before (and, for a bit, during) the obligatory comments from the judges. Couldn't have made it any better! Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember? Well, maybe? Can you hum a few bars, Grace?

Oh, and the judges' comments. Let's face (ahem) the facts: Cowell's comments actually made sense, in the sense that they already did happen. "I could see this in Vegas"? Yes, you could . .. and other places in the States, as well as internationally. Wisdom this precious is hard to find!

Again, good for SP. More exposure. But this is really nothing more than that. And that's okay. But I want some he, her, or them that twirls plates to win. I really do. That is a lost art that really needs to be seen back on the Strip (Vegas, not Sunset).

What will they do then (getting eliminated), you ask Him?

I don't know. Perhaps, Weird Al Yankovich will hire them as his opening act. And, Lexxi Foxx will be cursing the mirror in his foundation compact after another stint in rehab.

Let's face these words of wisdom, "Part of rehabilitation is relapsing".

Sounds like someone milking the system. Perhaps that can be Steel Panther's next single. Milking the system.

If I were Gene Simmons, I'd copyright that and capitalize on that immediately.

Actually, I thought Simon Cowell's first comment was most definitely n point, "You got a standing ovation just walking on stage". I'm guessing the entire season is set up.

Fletch, with all due respect, that was a compelling casserole of half-truths, what-ifs, several huhs, and at least one on-point observation. You, sir, are on a roll.

Keep up the good work . . . and the rest of it too. You add spice to this little corner of the web.
