That Steel Panther Performance From Last Night

Steel Panther was on America's Got Talent last night. They performed a heavily edited version of "Death To All But Metal." The results show is tonight. Let's hope they make it through to the next round!

Good DLR yelp at the start. The rest? Well, hmm. Glad they are on the biggest stage on Earth. I guess? Am I being sarcastic? Right now, I don't know.

Thing is, this show supposedly highlights people we don't know about. And I get it. Steel Panther are of this genre, which could always potentially use a bit of mainstream recognition (though perhaps not this sort). But are they really, really unknown? Do they need this boost, save for perhaps creating a few transitional fans who might go to a show . . . and then poop their pants when they see what Steel Panther do, unedited (and that will happen, as some of the people digging this show probably own flip-phones and still flip through physical catalogs).

This does nothing to make me want to watch 'Murrica's Got Hot Pot" and nothing to make me like Steel Panther any more or less. But, hey, if the kids dig it? Ah shucks, good golly, that's just groovy to me too!

Bkallday, I think our genre is safe. Traditional media--the big three and then four and then whatever--has been taking a nose-dive in recent years. Aunt Mabel from Oshkosh can barely see or hear what is coming out of that CRT TV sitting across the living room. And, for the life of her, she can't find the damn clicker either!

Funny thing is, cord cutters are cutting the new streaming cables they were told were a better option (or, at least, slimming down their bloated list of services which now, when added together, often equal or surpass what it costs for traditional media).

Considering how 'legit' a show like AGT is is like pondering the legitimacy of the RaRHoF selection process. It makes the Gong Show and Showtime at the Apollo look like serious endeavors! RIP Howard "Sandman" Sims, Sr. But at least those audience responses seem so darn genuine. I mean, it seems like a really fun time being on the set! Like being at The Peoples Temple, but without the treats at the end of the broadcast.

Oh, easy joke: if Simon has another facelift, his belly-button will be on his neck!
