Farewell Jack Russell

I feel like I'm writing farewell posts all the time now. We lost our beloved Great White frontman Jack Russell yesterday. He was recently diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and retired from music.

The news of Jack's passing was still shocking to lots of folks, me included. According to a statement from his family, Jack died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He was 63.

It didn't take long for condolences to come rolling in and that includes and official statement by his former Great White bandmates. It's a classy and concise tribute:

Thanks for posting this. Jack was a wild man - he lived the life only most of us dream of and as with life it catches up with you eventually. I only got to see Jack with Great White twice in the heyday 87/88 somewhere in there. Sorry to hear he has passed I knew it was inevitable when the diagnosis was announced but what I didn't know was he was already in hospice care at the time R.I.P Jack your voice and music will live forever.

Such a sad way to start my weekend, I really enjoyed Great White and am forever grateful that I got to see him live, performing those songs. However I always find it strange when their former bandmates start the condolences, when while the person was still here & alive, the band would badmouth and continue to bash the person. Kind of hypocritical imo but that’s just me!

Long live the memory of Jack Russell, it was your voice that made Great White what it was, anyone could have played those notes but only Jack had the voice of Great White. They’ve been totally irrelevant ever since they kicked him out of the band, for a second time. Make no mistake! RIP to the only legend that was ever in that band, Jack Russell. 🤘🏼

this one hurts. i was at his next to last show (in a dallas suburb), and we knew something was up when his performance was so … off. saw him many times over the years, and he was always great with fans before and after the show … not to mention how he turned it up a notch once the lights went down and the music began.
