Allyson's Favorite Top 5 Video Countdown - Number 1

And here we are. I'm due home later today, another Shiprocked behind me. Check back soon for reviews and photos of all the fun on the ship! Now, to the business at hand: my favorite video of all time.

Were you surprised to learn that Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World" made the cut or that I chose Guns n' Roses' "Estranged" over "Sweet Child O' Mine?" This winning video shouldn't be a surprise. After all, I do run a site called Bring Back Glam! So...drum roll...my favorite video of all time is "Looks that Kill" by Motley Crue.

Allyson's Favorite Top 5 Video Countdown - Number 2

I'm still sailing on Shiprocked, bobbing along in the ocean. Over the past few days, you've learned that I love videos by Michael Jackson, Poison and Aerosmith. Now it's time to find out which clip landed in the number two slot on my favorite videos of all time countdown.

When Appetite for Destruction was produced Guns n' Roses peaked. The band's musical legacy was etched in stone with that amazing debut and the sales from that record made the guys in the band very wealthy. All that wealth meant GnR had a ton of cash for videos. Enter the Use Your Illusion trilogy. I love all the videos in the trilogy, but my favorite is "Estranged" probably because I just love the song so darn much. I think the solo in "Estranged" is Slash's finest moment as a musician.

Check back tomorrow to learn my favorite video of all time.

Allyson's Favorite Top 5 Video Countdown - Number 3

You already know that I love Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World" and Poison's "Unskinny Bop." Let's continue my favorite video countdown. What video lands in my top 3 position? "Cryin'" by Aerosmith of course.

You might recall, "Cryin'" features Alicia Silverstone and was the first in a video trilogy that helped Aerosmith sell a boatload of copies of Get a Grip. I'm pretty sure "Cryin'" was retired by MTV in their daily afternoon countdown. It was that popular! The clip also won a video of the year award. Remember when those awards meant something?

Check back tomorrow to find out which video comes in at number two.

Allyson's Favorite Top 5 Video Countdown - Number 4

Today, let's continue my top 5 video countdown. Yesterday, I told you my fifth fave video is Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World." today, my pick that lands in the number four spot is Poison's "Unskinny Bop."

You might recall Poison was my band back in the 80s/90s. I pretty much loved any Poison video back in the day, but nothing could hold a candle to "Unskinny Bop."

Check back tomorrow to see which video lands in the number three spot!

Allyson's Favorite Top 5 Video Countdown - Number 5

Today, I'm off to Fort Lauderdale to attend Shiprocked. I'll be seeing Vince Neil, Tesla, Cinderella, Lynam and more. While I'm away, I thought I'd countdown my top five favorite videos of all time - of any genre.

When I was a kid, MTV was real - it was all videos, all the time and metal reigned supreme. This means I had a lot of videos to choose from. Now, artists still make videos but it just isn't the same. There was something special about seeing your favorite video come up in the MTV rotation. I always stopped whatever I was doing, and watched mesmerized. Then I'd grab some VHS tapes and wait for the video to come up again so I could capture it forever. (Side note: I still have some of this mix-VHS video tapes!)

That said, my fifth favorite video of all time (and remember, this is ANY genre:)

"You Rock My World" by Michael Jackson

Check back tomorrow to find out my fourth favorite video of all time!

Lynam, 'Thank You Good Night!' -- Album Review

Not so long ago I made a side note comment that Lynam were releasing a new album. The live record, called Thank You Good Night! is Lynam's final record but the band says they "Are not breaking up."

Regardless of semantics, Thank You Good Night! is a fun record filled with Lynam's best known songs. Recorded live in Birmingham, Alabama over a series of shows, the album opens with "Tanis" and ends with "Leave Me Alone."

Lead singer Jacob Lynam doesn't always hit every not perfectly. After all, this is a real live record. It hasn't been retouched to high hell with ProTools. In fact, the listener actually goes away knowing what Lynam sounds like live - and that's pretty damn good.

Lynam is a very fun concert band. For the life of me, I don't know why they haven't made it big. Then again, not many new rock bands do make it big anymore. There are bands that write catchy songs and there are bands that write great lyrics. Lynam does both.

Now, Thank You Good Night! isn't without its flaws. My favorite "Losing Venus" is missing but thankfully "Just Say Anything" made the cut. I can do without the stage banter, but that's because I've heard it all before and generally, I despise all pithy comments from the lead singer mid-show. At any rate, I can't wait to see Lynam live again on Shiprocked in just one day!

Thank You Good Night! track listing:

1. Tanis
2. Better
3. Disco King
4. Save My Soul
5. White Trash Superstar
6. By Your Side
7. Waste My Life
8. Porn Star
9. Lindsay Says
10. Just Say Anything
11. It's All In Your Head
12. Leave Me Alone

As if I need to spell it out for you: buy this album! Thank You Good Night! is produced by Jason Elgin on the New Ocean Media imprint. Order the album now.

Metal Meat!

Sometimes we all just need a laugh. Glam gets mocked a lot. Sometimes the mockery is annoying, other times endearing. Enter Hollywood's Zeus' Hammer. Several years ago, the parody band made a video for their song “Metal Meat.” I couldn't help but laugh at some parts of the clip – especially the fog machine and the crazy “metal guitar” action. Have a look. The music isn't great, but fun is fun nevertheless.
