Remember Southgang?
I was going through my archive, trying to find an obscure band that doesn't get much love around here. I've determined we all need to give Southgang a little attention.
Southgang was one of those bands that came on the scene at the tail end of the glam phenomenon. You know what I mean: the boys in the band had long hair and wore jeans and flannel in addition to their spandex. Southgang released two albums, Tainted Angel and Group Therapy. Neither were huge hits, but singles and video play did earn the band a little traction.
The most famous member of Southgang is probably guitarist Butch Walker. He's written music for a slew of artists, including Tommy Lee, Rockstar Supernova and the Donnas. You might remember Butch Walker from Rockstar Supernova, although that show was never as good as American Idol: that's a fact!
Anyway, I'm awfully tired so I hope you'll accept this short entry today.
Here's Southgang's video for their song "Tainted Angel" from the debut album of the same name. As always, give me your opinion.

Thanks for digging that up, I never even knew this band existed. Time to start tracking down the CD's on eBay and Amazon.com!
If you want another 'obscure' glam band, have you ever listened to Kingofthehill? They were pretty good back in the day. Seems like they also were in at the tail end of the cycle. I think they toured with Exteme for a while. They had a moderately successful ballad "If I Say." I saw recently they released some demos that were to be their second album. I believe they have some videos on youtube.
That band sounds a little familiar. I'll check them out...

You're making me pull out tons of CDs to re-listen to!
I have both Southgang releases but it's been a long time since I've listened to them.

Southgang was one of the most overlooked bands to ride the tail-end of the scene prior to grunge. I have both their albums, and just about everything Butch Walker has done since. The first post-Southgand project was the Floyds (AKA Floyds Funk Review). It was basically Southgang without Jesse, and a female keyboard player (who is currently Jayce's wife). Not remarkable, but it paved the way for The Marvelous 3. In addition to Hey Album, and Ready, Sex Go, I highly recommend searching out Math And Other Problems. Marvelous 3's debut. Very hard to find, but well worth it. I've met Butch and he is a terrific person. You couldn't meet a nicer guy. All of his solo stuff is great; though highly different from Southgang. BTW, I was at the video shoot for his song Bethamphetamine (which my son was an extra in), and he autographed my Tainted Angel cd.
I picked up Group Therapy on Martha's Vineyard for $5!!! This was their 2nd release and another great gem. "Misery; My Best Friend's Girl, Tug of War", and one of my personal faves; "Fire in your body" - great release!!
Great band and way to bring it back Allyson!!!
Allyson, if you haven't checked out KingoftheHill.....you have to get that cd. Killer stuff!
Well, no. Not boring...just the same. Nothing too different from other bands in the genre I like, though worth a listen to.
