It's Prom Season

I loved prom season when I was in high school for two reasons: it meant getting a fancy dress and the end of the school year was near.

Today I was leaving work and I overheard someone talk about picking up a tuxedo so her son could go to prom. I nearly stopped dead in my tracks - and then it dawned on me - it really is prom season!

Oh glorious time of gowns, flowers, limos...and music! I went to three proms - all of them had a DJ because my school (apparently) didn't have enough money for live music. I can't really remember the themes of my proms - but I know the music selected was NOT Glam. Of course the DJ spun staples like "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC, but from what I recall many of the theme songs revolved around Celine Dion.

If I was planning a prom now, you better believe it would be Glam: music, hairspray and lycra baby!

I graduated high school in 1998 so these songs were not on the Billboard chart during that time - but maybe you did go to high school in the 1980s. If so, did you have a Glam theme?

I graduated in 1988 .. and we didn't have a theme .. but the biggest hit of the year was Sweet Child O Mine .. so that would be my pick!

I didn't have a date for the prom. However, I remember one year the theme was "Hotel California". I don't think they knew the true story behind the song... ;)

I hated prom and still hate dancing. It looks moronic and spasmodic. But still, I would pick "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go away)."
The only reason for a guy to go to prom is because he is getting laid that night. For some reason, girls find prom night "magical."

Our theme song in 1996 was Celine Dion's "Because you loved me".... ICK!!!! The best glam song for a prom would have to be Bon Jovi's "Never say goodbye".

LOL at the "magical" comment .. I am a girl and personally I found it all a pain in the ass .. probably because Guns N Roses were actually playing in town on the night of my Graduation and my parents insisted I attend .. so while I was shopping for fluffy dresses my mind was thinking leather pants!

I graduated in 1990...went to 3 proms...The only theme I remember is "Hold onto the Night", by the king of glam, Richard Marx.

If it were my decision, it would have been Jackyl, "She Loves My Cock"

I don't recall if there wasn't such a thing as a prom when I left school, or if I just didn't go b/c I was an outsider. Nowadays they have a leavers dinner at the end of primary AND high school, I guess it's the same thing. I don't know if they have a theme song tho.

Our prom theme was "Dreams" by Van HAGAR and our Senior song was "Welcome to the Jungle"--GnR of course...gawd it was great being a child of the 80's!

@ Heather - my prom theme was "A Whole New World" too. I'm a sucker for Disney so I kinda liked it for that reason.
