So I Guess Poison and Def Leppard...
So I guess Poison and Def Leppard are going to tour this summer. That's what was posted on Blabbermouth anyway. I find this amusing since Bret Michaels said over and over and over again that Poison wouldn't be hitting the road this summer.
Now, the tour isn't a done deal but I guess it will probably happen.
Here's the article from Blabbermouth:
POISON frontman Bret Michaels has confirmed that his band is in talks to tour with DEF LEPPARD later in the year. Speaking to CNN about his upcoming activities, Michaels said, "I've got a huge announcement, which actually just happened this morning. DEF LEPPARD and POISON are gonna go out on the road this summer. And the reason that's exciting for me [is] I know it will be the rock tour this summer. POISON and DEF LEPPARD, with all those big hits, being out there, we put out a great show, we've got a huge fan base, but the one thing the fans get, we always keep the ticket prices down and deliver an absolutely awesome, kick-ass rock show. And I look forward to it, because I'm still a fan of music — I'm very passionate about the music I make — and when you can be out on the road with people you like — I've been able to go out with AEROSMITH, KISS, SKYNYRD — and to be out with DEF LEPPARD and POISON this summer, I think that it's gonna be the tour of the summer.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Poison and Def Leppard hated each other? My Glam, all last summer all we heard was insults back and forth.
Now the two groups are going to tour? Egad.
Well, here are my predictions: Ticket sales will be low. Really low. Poison does pull out a good show night after night, but they've toured just about every summer for the past decade and that equals market saturation. I worry in this economy, people won't pay to see them again if they were just through town last summer. I also predict Joe Elliot's voice will be completely shot and he won't be able to belt out the Def Lep hits as required by law. Finally, I think this tour (if it happens) will be picked up by one of the major summer festivals in America. Which one? I cannot say.
Here's my final prediction: when this tour rolls through Ohio, I'll be there. I mean, what can I say? I love Poison and Def Leppard. I also love a good train wreck and with these bands together, something chaotic is bound to happen.

I went to see Cinderella, Ratt and finally Sebastian Bach and Dokken. Poison puts out a fun show, but it's a cookie cutter show and Bret Michaels is one of the most scripted, plastic front men to step foot on a stage.
As for Def Leppard, had they stopped making records after Pyromania, I would love them.
More importantly, I sure hope that Rock Gone Wild is not the festival that you are talking about. I would be ultra depressed if both of these were headliners on separate nights.
This year I will certainly pass on the Poison summer tour.
If it was between seeing Poison for the 4th or 5th time (and paying less than $25 bux) and having to endure a festival show, I'd take the Poison show (and who they get to tour with them always cracks me up, giving me much amusement). You gotta admit, they *are* entertaining, even if it *is* on the Lindburger (cheese) side.
I have never liked festival shows to begin with. They're too big, there are too many people, they're usually too far away, and the sets are too short. If I'm gonna travel 1500 miles to see Tesla, they damn better well play for 2 hours! Call it me being stingy with my money :P
I spose I'm just spoiled. Living in the Bay Area, the small to medium places to see bands are abundant. After 24 years (my entire life, up to that point) of having to endure Indiana where no one hardly ever played while I grew up, I have the right to gloat!
(Sorry for the ramble, I'm crankypants :P)
I've seen Poison 8 times and every show is the same tired setlist...that's market saturation. I would see Poison every year if they would record new music or play some different songs.
I love Ride The Wind and Mama Don't Dance as much as the next fan, but how about mixing it up with Life Loves A Tragedy or Hollyweird?
Anyway, hope ticket prices are low, because my budget isn't getting any bigger...
One more note about the set lists....I'm so sick and tired of these damn bands having set lists to please their mainstream fans and not the REAL fans who really want to hear other songs that aren't on a greatest hits record!
And from what I've seen on the Rock of Love Bus I'll bet that's a prerequisite for backstage passes for any upcoming Poison show.
The set list was around 60% histeria 35% pyromania and 5% a new tune and bringing on the heart break which they played acoustic before the highlight of the show "Switch 625"
When will this band realise that most of the fans that see them these days are diehards and want to hear more that just those 2 records. A few tunes of slang would of been nice and at least 1 more off high n dry .... Why are these bands so out of touch with there fan base.
Its baffles me.
Don't believe the negative comments some people made on the net about the show, I was there and they got one of, if not the, loudest reaction of the whole festival.
Bring this double header to the Uk, cos I can't afford mainland Europe this year!
