Concert Season is Over - How Did You Do?

It's the last day of August, which makes me so sad. The end of August basically means the end of concert season. Sure, I have a few shows in September (American Idols Live, Pop Evil, UFO, Kix) and Shiprocked in November, but the majority of my 2009 concert calendar is behind me.

I don't know about you, but I think I had a pretty strong 2009 season. Sure there were festivals (Rocklahoma, Rock on the Range, M3), one-off shows by bands I've wanted to see for more than a decade (Whitesnake) and a big 'ol flop (Aerosmith).

What was my best festival? That's a tie for Rock on the Range and M3. Two different genres, two different groups of friends! Both blasts and I'm going to each again in 2010.

What was my best "solo" stop show? Probably Britney Spears. Don't hate: Circus is an over-the-top tour. That show officially kicked off concert season for me - no indoor show this year has been able to beat it in my mind.

My biggest bummer? Aerosmtih's tour falling apart, of course. I'm also sad KISS isn't coming anywhere near me. I've never seen them and thought for sure this would be the year - but I don't have money for another concert trip, so I guess it's a no go.

What am I most looking forward to? Shiprocked, of course. The Caribbean when it's cold in Ohio is uber awesome.

So, how did you do, concert-season wise? What was your best show? Your biggest disappointment?

Biggest disappointment was probably Poison; even though I knew what to expect, it was just stale. They need new material desperately. Def Leppard was good, but not as good as I had hoped.

Best show was probably Whitesnake/Judas Priest. It's hard to beat 4th row center.

But it's not over...Souls of We (George Lynch's other other band) in September, Stryper in October. You never know.

I haven't seen anything worth mentioning this summer.

But I'm with JT, it's not over - Electric Boys in 10 days and LA Guns (Tracii and Jizzy's version) in late September.

Biggest disappointment = Rock Gone Wild (obvious reasons).

Still have Stryper to look forward to in September.

Are the Electric Boys playing in the states?

I saw a boatload of shows this summer, mostly of the punk variety.

The best, by far, was Green Day.

You beat me to the punch! I'm working on my "end of the summer" concert report right now. I'll be posting it next week.

My biggest surprise this summer was Incubus. I didn't realize how great they are live. AC/DC was pretty damn good too (of course).

Can't say that I had any disappointments (except for the Rock Gone Wild fiasco). All in all, it was a pretty good summer.

Damp...promoters have already indicated they are bringing M3 back again next year based on the success of 2009. And yes M3 was my best concert attended this summer...DC101 chili cookoff with Shinedown, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Third Eye Blind and the Offspring was the next best...did not go to ROK this year (thankfully) nor did i buy into the scam of RGW (even more thankful!).

My fav so far was actually Kenny Chesney - biggest party I've been to in a while. I still have Kid Rock and KISS/Buckcherry in the next month, so we'll see who takes the crown for 2009!!!

Seeing Faster Pussycat, Bang Tango, Sister Sin, and bulletboys along with Pretty Boy Floyd at the same small club another night has to be the best shows I've seen in a long time. Meeting all the bands and having that personal experience was amazing. cant wait to see Vains of Jenna and Dirty Penny this fall touring together!

Well, I just had my last weekend of my Rock N' Roll summer and I have to say I"m EXHAUSTED! It's been non-stop it seems since May. Started out with Bon Jovi at Jazzfest then M3 to kick off summer, June I went to CPR FEST(radio fest in Biloxi MS with candlebox, hinder and 3 doors down), July was filled with Rocklahoma, Priest/Whitesnake & Cruefest in Vegas and in August I had Poison/Lep, then ending the summer out with Cruefest & Chickenfoot in Atlanta this past weekend. September is rather quiet for me (only Journey/Night Ranger) but ROCKTOBER is JAM PACKED! A show every weekend it seems, Lillian Axe, Bret Michaels, Shinedown, Queensryche, Ratt, AC/DC and KISS on Halloween. November will bring Ryche again and then SHIPROCKED and December is KISS in Houston. I say it's been a HELLUVA Year. It's crazy to even think what 2010 may bring, yikes, this is an expensive hobby! Even though the summer's come to end after Labor Day, I can honestly say BRING ON FOOTBALL SEASON! Geaux Tigers and Saints! Rock Never Stops 2009.

Biggest disappointment of the Summer 2009 was Rock Gone Wild not happening, would have been great.
Looking forward to AC/DC in October. I have never seen them. This Summer I didn't see many shows or go to any festivals.

Brian! Electric Boys are doing a club tour here in Sweden and after that they're heading into the studio. They played a couple of shows in the UK (opening up for Thunder) in July.
