RATT, 'Infestation' -- The Bring Back Glam! Album Review
Today is the day, my Glam lovelies! RATT unleashes Infestation, the band's first album of all new material in a decade! I feel like we've been waiting for this day for a long, long time.
I have to admit, I love everything about Infestation. I think the songs are great. The writing is good and the guitar work is even better. I love the addition of guitarist Carlos Cavazo. I think he complements Warren DeMartini well.
All told, there are 11 tracks on Infestation. Each is unique, but oh-so-Glam. I mean, honestly Glam. RATT didn't get together and try to make a concept album or create a bunch of songs to sound "radio-ready modern." Nope. These songs fit with everything else in the band's catalog.
What do I like? "Best of Me," "As Good As It Gets" and "Lost Weekend" for sure but really, this is a front to back album. What do I mean by that? I mean, get in your car, roll down the windows, pop on Infestation and just drive. Don't go forward or skip around. Just enjoy every track in order.
Sure, there are heavier moments, like "Eat Me Up Alive" and that song is a great choice to start the album. "Garden of Eden" is freaking fantastic. I love the bass and Stephen Pearcy's growl. Honestly, I hope RATT does a lot of these songs live this summer. Let's drop some of the old material and bring in new fun.
The bottom line: if you haven't already bought this album, shame on you! RATT is bringing back Glam with Infestation - true party rock with a bite! Get it, love it. It's only April but this record is already in first place for Glam record of the year.

Having said that... I like Infestation and honestly feel - like a lot of people - that this "album" could have fit in somewhere between Out of the Cellar and Invasion of Your Privacy. It's a return to old school Ratt.
However... I gotta say that the lyrics kinda suck. Pearcy... come on, man, you're 50 plus... time to start writing something better than this crap... It's a shame that with such good, heavy, hooky music (thanks Warren and Carlos) it's brought down a notch by Pearcy's heavy handed sleazeiness... I mean, come on...
All told, though, I'd give this one a 8 out of 10 and think it's gonna breath some life back into Ratt. Hopefully they keep it together live.
Does it seem like the ole days? Everytime, I look around, there is another concert coming to my area. 80's Glam bands, no less! Y and T. LA Guns. Faster Pussycat, Lynch Mob, Ratt, Kix, Hammerfall, Dirty Penny and Vains of Jenna...to name a few. Other bands, like Airbourne, Megadeth, WASP, Wildstreet!
I do not have enough money to keep up with all this.
Great time to grow up in the 80s as a kid!
Great time to still be rockin..while we have a little more money to go see the ole vets.
Great to see bands like Airbourne, Wildstreet, Dirty Penny and such continuing to carry the torch.
BTW... to 1st post, if ya want lyrical artwork... go listen to U2... Infestation's lyrics are what they should be... "light hearted, upbeat and sleazy..."
It's only Ratt-n-Roll... but we love it !!
Yep, you're right. I got the American version confused with the import I guess. Thanks for that.

LAST CALL everybody!! ;)
If ya didn't get it yet, go for that.
It's got great live stuff as bonus trax...
But the real gem is the extra bonus of an additional new studio track, "Scatter", that is, I dare say, actually better than most of the trax on the regular release.
I'll be heading to the local record store this afternoon.

Go listen to U2? Give me a break. I don't expect "lyrical artwork" but I do expect a certain level of craftsmenship where the lyrics are concerned... My point is what worked when Pearcy was in his 20's and 30's and getting wasted and boning groupies is kinda, well... pathetic... coming from a man in his early 50's. That's all.
I still dug the disc.
