Richie Kotzen Tour Dates Announced!

Talk about one tour I'd love to attend...but there just are not enough days (or money) this summer. Here's the release.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (April 20, 2010) – Richie Kotzen will hit the road on his world tour starting in South America April 22nd in Goiania, Brazil, but is working his way back to his long-awaited return to the USA.  This will be his first string of tour dates in the USA in over a decade and a concert not to miss. He will be performing from his 17 plus solo albums with various charting hits he wrote or performed with Poison and Mr. Big.

Kotzens latest critically acclaimed release PEACE SIGN on Headroom Inc is sweeping the Nation. Kotzen has an amazing ability to create projects that awe critics and inspire aspiring musicians having done it again with his new release. “I'm really excited about this new CD,” explains Kotzen. “I'm not sure how I did it, but somehow I think it has a really live sound, even though I'm playing all the instruments on all but four songs. I think it is because of the music I grew up on.  Bands like Cream, The Stones, and of course Hendrix all had that ‘live -- create it on the spot’ sound so I suppose that is the way I hear music.

Kotzen has been touted as “one of the best guitar players in the world” with a voice on par with some of the greatest rock/soul singers. He has also enjoyed a truly incredible journey in the world of music. Among numerous accomplishments, in 2006 as a solo artist, Kotzen was the opening act for the legendary Rolling Stones’ A Bigger Bang Tour in Japan. And in addition to writing and being featured on #1 charting albums and tracks, Kotzen has amassed an impressive 25 plus album discography.

As Richie is a local guy I will be going to the Reading, PA show. My boys take guitar lessons at the same shop, Fred's Music, where Richie hung out as a kid. Heard many stories of how advanced he was at age 12.

Hey Ramzilla/Bill, you must be pretty close to my neck-o-the woods! I'm in Schuylkill County in Frackville, about 40 miles up the road (good old rt 61) from Reading.I kind of figured that Richie would have a Reading date on his tour,being he is a local home boy.Guy is uber talented and highly under appreciated as a guitarist.

Kotzen's a killer guitarist!

I really wish he had formed his own band back in the day rather than retrofitting himself into already established acts, Poison and Mr. Big.

He would have been huge with the right band of his own back in the early 90's.

Maybe doing the stint in Poison was a good move at 21 in '91, but even then you wish he could have formed a band. Reality is, he probably did the right thing under the circumstances and also considering the musical climate at the time.

But as Kotzen has alluded to in interviews, there were a lot of creative differences between he and the boys in Poison. I'll just lay it out for you right here and now that, in my opinion, it all boiled down to the fact that he, plain and simple, displayed more talent on the tip of his pinky finger than the rest of the band.

So, I mean, c'mon, "Stand"? That's his biggest contribution to Poison beyond all the killer guitar work he contributed? It's so formula -- The formula being "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. This was Poison on it's last legs and we can all pretty much tell what he had to endure in that situation creatively.

There were also, apparently, some very personal differences that I won't get into here but those in the know are aware as to what those are and those that need to know can find out without much Googling.

Had he been able to really flourish with his very own vehicle -- a band that would have been a project of his own making and design and totally ambitious a la Jimmy Page and the formation of Led Zeppelin, there's no doubt, done right, it would have had a huge impact and, as with Page, the whole thing would have revolved around him.

If he had only done that right after "Native Tongue", he might have been able to pull it off.

Kotzen had, and still has, the chops, the IDEAS, the voice, the talent, the songwriting ability and last but not least, the look to have been a megastar during Glam Metal's heyday.

Look, I respect that he kinda went his own way and became a hired gun of sorts, as well as a solo artist with a modern take on blues rock along with straight blues and jazz fusion.

But had he gone with Glam Metal full on, he would have bent the genre with great turns and twists the likes of which we will never hear and really made his mark.

No doubt, no matter how he got to the here and now, he's definitely someone I want to be able to hear and now!

I'm dyin' to catch him for both Orlando dates and in Tampa, as well, but most likely I'll see him in Orlando, probably at Club 57, since I've been doing a lot of business in Orlando lately.

Still, as you can see on the schedule, he's playin' Skipper's Smoke House in Tampa, where you can get real smoked oysters right then and there, cooked right on premises.

And, for sure, the night Kotzen's there, he'll be cookin' with some smokin' leads right on premises, too!
