Awesome Live Motley Crue Video
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 12:01AM
I stumbled on an awesome old Motley Crue live clip last night! The Crue, performing "Live Wire" in Columbus, Ohio back in 1987. I think the clip was made at Buckeye Centre, but I could be wrong about that.
The thing that baffles me is that it looks like daylight and by 1987, Motley was a well-established act. Clearly headline material. Maybe this video was part of a festival - not sure. Obviously I wasn't at the show but if one of you was... please, fill us in on the details!

This is from Buckeye Lake Music Center, the former Legend Valley, the shows started early in the day. Almost all shows were on Sundays. This is a Sunday, it looks like Legend Valley, and Motely did play there the summer of 1987. I drove from Columbus to Richfield to see them at the old Colesium a couple nights before this show. Partially, because this was a daylight show.
What I know for fact, Bon Jovi, Cinderella and the Smithereens played there two months earlier on a Sunday and the show started at noon. I was at that show which led to my decision to head to Cleveland versus catching Motley there. I know one person who was at this show and will double check. I have my stub from the BJ show. BJ was 50,000 people and no seating at all...miserable.
Now a challenge, find me some footage of Motley headlining Vets Memorial in Columbus on the Shout at the Devil Tour on May 6, 1984. My ticket said Motley Crew. Still have it...
See, this is nostalgia!
Still, it's awesome you saw 'em when you did back then, Smknotsmf, but nostalgic hindsight being 20/20 (if you're lucky enuff to remember), I bet if you wouldn't have passed up the chance to see 'em at this show, too.
p.s. Notice how Vince actually bothered to sing back then?
Thanks for bringing up such a great memory on a very slow Tuesday that might not ever end.
I want a copy, too.
*puts hand back on desk.*
What a lineup that was...
Crue, Quiet Riot and Scorpions.
And, Smknotsmf, Crue and Quiet Riot played (you guessed it!) in broad daylight!
I actually think that would be a great subject to post, hahaha!!!:
Name all of The Gigs You've Seen In Broad Day Light!...

Where was I in the 80's? Stupidly avoiding outdoor festivals but I did see nearly everybody of our faves under the sun, or, rather, NOT under the sun, har-har, but at night at Hammerjack's (Baltimore!) The Bayou (D.C. -- '79, too), The Seagull Inn (Pasadena, M.D.), Network (Pasadena, MD), Capital Centre (Largo, MD -- '70s, too!), Baltimore Civic Center, The Cat Club NYC, Madison Square Garden, The Ritz, The Roxy, Irving Plaza, Hammerstein Ballroom, The Stephen Talkhouse (Amagansett, NY), Wild Rose (East Hampton, NY), Mabouhay Gardens S.F. and The Country Club L.A. and, oddly, The U.S. Naval Academy (where I saw a lot of HUGE bands in both the 70's and 80's courtesy of The U.S. Navy!)...
