I Want To See the REO Speedwagon, STYX and Ted Nugent Tour!

This summer is shaping up to be awesome for tours. Yesterday, another tour I want to see was announced: STYX, REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent. I sort of wonder if these bands could fill the TBA slots on Rock Fest? I wish this tour was part of M3, but oh well I guess. Also, I think it would be hilarious to get front row seats for this and wear my "LIBERAL" shirt just to mess with the Nuge. In normal times, I'd go ahead and get some tickets for the Cincinnati show when the on-sale begins next month... but since Aerosmith is supposedly touring this summer I have to wait to make plans (there's only so much money after all). Are you waiting for any bands to announce before planning your summer concert schedule?

Here's the tour details:

February 22, 2012 – Over 80 million albums sold worldwide.  12 Top 10 smash hit singles.  Thousands of concerts performed.  The time has come for the ultimate convergence of Rock’s finest from the Midwest.  REO Speedwagon, STYX and Ted Nugent will join forces for “The Midwest Rock ‘n Roll Express” 30-date U.S. tour.  Rolling out May 1 in Hidalgo, TX, tickets for various cities will go on sale starting February 22.

“Forget all those TV shows with glee clubs singing Rock songs,” exclaims STYX guitarist/singer James “JY” Young.  “It’s time for mega-Platinum Illinois bands STYX and REO Speedwagon in a battle to the end of the Mayan Calendar with the Motor City Madman!”

"I am a Midwest boy, born and raised with Midwest values,” continues REO Speedwagon singer/guitarist Kevin Cronin.  “In the Midwest we work hard, play hard, and rock hard.  I am proud to join my brothers in STYX and Ted Nugent to celebrate Midwest rock 'n roll and represent the greatest rock fans in the world.  I am ready to climb aboard the ‘Midwest Rock 'n Roll Express!’  Rock On baby!"

As STYX singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw proclaims, “It's gonna be a Twang Fest of screaming guitars and big, sing-along choruses that continue to be the soundtrack for the misbehavior of our collective fan base.  In other words, a real good time.”

Ted Nugent couldn’t agree more.  “The heart and soul of American R&B&R&R has always gushed forth from the heartland of America.  REO, STYX and The Nuge have always celebrated the power of our special music and on the mighty ‘Midwest Rock ‘n Roll Express,’ the energy, attitude and spirit is more intense than ever.  This is the soundtrack for the hardcore.”

This is another one I'd like to see, even though I've seen Terrible Ted before (about 15 years ago in Nashville). At that concert (with Night Ranger) he and Jack Blades performed a DY song or two...I'm sure the same will happen with Tommy Shaw. That alone might be worth the ticket price.

July 3 Verona, NY Turning Stone Resort Casino - Right in my back yard.. I would love to go see Uncle Ted. Ticket prices are $35/40/45. My wife & I am not fans of STYX or REO Speedwagon, so we will most likely not attend.

This will save me from paying $10-15 at each state fair in the Midwest to see them. Now I can just see them in one swoop. Wonder how the lineup order will go ??

Always remember reading this about REO Speedwagon (just incredible if you really think about it):

" In the summer of 1981, REO headlined sold-out shows at the Houston Astrodome, the New Orleans Superdome, New York City's Madison Square Garden and Chicago's Soldier Field, among other venues. Epic Records' pressing plants couldn't keep up with the demand. At one point, "Hi Infidelity" was selling some 250,000 copies per week"

Good times seeing how Hi Infidelity was like their 11th album.

The LIBERAL shirt would be a good idea, until Ted SHOT YOU WITH HIS CROSSBOW. Then who would run the site?

Saw Nugent twice with Derek St. Holmes and twice after he got rid o him. St. Holmes is a killer singer, still possessing his chops. Nugent is obviously a guitar legend.

He really tanked after he got rid of St. Holmes as is borne out in the VHI "Behind The Music" I saw recently. He really turned into an a*s clown with that loin clothed Tarzan Sh*t and is also a complete ignoramus when it comes to his politics.

Nugent used to be a great B.S.er but has now morphed into an all out kook. Still, he's a h*lluva guitarist and there's no taking that away from him, it's just that his "singing" and empty bravado that sucks. He should get St. holmes back but word is he's too cheap and too much of a PR*ck to ever do it.

p.s. "And if you-ah are-ah ready-ah I am-ah able-ah..." Man, that has to be the most annoying singer, Kevin WTF, in 80's Rock History, hands down. UNROCK Nerd Rock! REO Chuckwagon blows and always did.

And he h*ll with Styx, too!

Oops! Dangin' autocorrect -- and THE h*ll with Styx, too!

MB, once again you hit the nail squarely on the head. Nugent needs st. Holmes and St. Holmes needs Nugent, but I fear their days of performing together on a regular basis are over. Nugent, guitar god though he is, is also an egomaniac and a glory hound. St. Holmes is a great singer, and not a bad guitar player either, and he steals some of the attention away from Uncle Ted, which Uncle Ted can't stand. every once in a while, St. Holmes will show up at a Nuge gig and do a few songs with him, but i doubt they'll ever be full bandmates again which is really sad.

Bob! What you say is SO true! I've actually had more than a few conversations with St. Holmes about it when I used to take my ex-lead guitarist's nephew to guitar lessons at St. Holmes house.

Yeah, Nugent is a nut who should have realized to keep St. Holmes. These guys have such chemistry. Between Nuge's awesome Guitar Pyrotechnics and Holmes voice AND songwriting talent they really made music magic.

There's a reason Nugent is known as "Terrible Ted" and it's exemplified right hear!

I'm not sure which is worse: Bret Michaels lawsuit or Ted's politics. I assume they beleive both have merit.

Fletch! Believing something has merit does not make a person sane. Nugent is misinformed and Michael's obviously lost his vision long ago, decided to go for the lowest common denominator and is now an opportunistic fraud.

And neither of them are truly in their right minds. Though, they probably never were, and despite being jacka*sses still delivered some classic slabs of Metal at one time. Ted's first solo album and Poison's first album are their respective pinnacles.
