The New Dokken Video For 'Empire' Is Here

Have you seen the new Dokken video for "Empire?" No? Well now you can catch it below! The song is from the band's upcoming album called Broken Bones, due Sept. 25. What do you think? I think the song is much stronger than the video. And really, the music should always do the talking, right?

I actually think this fits in, musically, quite nicely with the _Back for the Attack_ era. The video is, well, no better or worse than those self-produced by a host of other bands (and just as soft as the former video posted on here even if it is brighter). Don seems to be channeling his past and present in the persona department: the biker look of now with a clean-shaven (and, ugh, eyelinered) face. Perhaps, though, that is the point.

I know Dokken is known for his ego. But he kept his promise to update the message while delivering a song (and, one hopes, an album) that holds to a classic sound. He is also criticized on this site for his lackluster vocals in concert. But the studio hides most wounds. While some of this sounds over-processed and/or layered to my ear, it catches the feel one would want from Dokken. If the rest of the album truly has this same vibe, I could predict a positive response similar to the one that Ratt received (read: a lot of enthusiastic clapping in a relatively small space).

I won't get into what constitutes a band, an 'original' band, or even a relevant one (the latter point is relatively useless in context of old school metal and glam). But this does place a bit of pressure on T&N to do something equal to Dokken or at least as inspired as Lynch Mob (now, sadly, without Crane . . . and one wonders why).

Dokken may be dysfunctional, but this is no _Dysfunctional_.
